Afternoon All. As a result of some treatment I've been having I've ended up with peripheral neuropathy. I was hoping it would settle, but after 5 months it seems like it's permanent. I know there was a post on her a while back from someone who also had PN and given the collective age group on the forum, I'm sure I'm not alone. So I'm wondering if anyone has any tips on modifying playing techniques or exercises that might help to overcome the difficulty I'm having in playing.
To summarise - I can't hold on to a pick anymore, my left hand fingers usually manage to end up in the right place when I'm playing (although the feeling of placing on the strings is downright unpleasant), but my right hand is very inconsistent when I'm trying to fingerpick. Probably nothing that can be done, but it's really burning me up looking at my beautiful guitars gathering dust..

So sorry to hear that skyetripper, and also sorry I can offer no advice re playing etc. No doubt you've already Googled your way around the internet, but let's hope someone here can actually help in some way or other, or knows someone in a similar position to you. I believe Eric Clapton was reported a few years ago as struggling with peripheral neurpathy, though I realise that is hardly any consolation! Keith

May I agree with Keith's post above and also concur that I have no knowledge of this other than that 1 in 10 people above a certain suffer with it which is fairly common in my book. Hope things settle down and you can can get so enjoyment back with your guitar. Phil

Thanks Keith. Needless to say it’s all I have in common with EC if he has peripheral neuropathy. 😳 Google is really just full of additional drug suggestions, none of which I particularly like the sound of.
