About 20 years ago I owned a Northworthy Wyaston and it looked awful purdy with gold strings. They cost about twice the usual, I don't remember them being anything special in any other way, and when I got a set with a dud sixth and the shop wouldn't replace it I stopped buying them. I don't recall the brand. Anyone used them?

I don't think I've heard of gold plated strings before. Were the treble strings gold as well? How expensive were they?

If memory serves, the treble strings were gold too.

I think these would look really good on certain guitars (maybe with ebony fingerboards, bridges, headplates and gold tuners). Maybe with gold coloured frets too... I may be venturing into 'Bling County' here

Wait a minute... gold coloured tuners: check gold coloured frets: check gold coloured strings (Thomastik SB112): check gold coloured strap pins: check Except the fingerboard, which is bog oak instead of ebony, such a guitar is right now standing at arm's length right next to me

You mean a golden one ? No, but I think that with some darker tonewoods some gold coloured parts fit much nicer that the average silver coloured stuff. Mahogany, I think, asks for silver, whereas rosewood or walnut are perfect for gold. the reddish tone of cocobolo fits both. At least, that's what I think...

I know what you mean about darker woods and gold fittings. Only joking about the medallion glad you saw the funny side

Bernd might be interested to note that these strings are "hand wound in Germany". What it must be to have an economy strong enough to have gold to spare for strings. Brian
