This is not the sort of music I normally listen to but there is something special about these two young women, their musicianship and harmonies. The fretless banjo on one of the tracks is remarkable..

Nora Brown's solo albums are phenomenal too. She recorded her first album at 14 which is ridiculous, given how mature it sounds. I saw the duo live in London, twas great.

Thanks for that. The melody to Copper Kettle has always got me, ever since hearing it on Self Portrait. Class shows doesn't it.

I have obsessively listened to her on YouTube over the past few days and have become more and more impressed. I have developed a real liking for her music and shall be buying some of her albums. I am also seriously considering - and don’t tell Martin - getting a banjo for myself. I shall never be even a small fraction of the musician she is but am genuinely excited by the prospect of exploring a whole new sonic world. Brian

Her playing is wonderful, but what's especially nice is that she plays in a way that mere mortals can aspire to. She's not like Bela Fleck, say, or Chris Thile on the mandolin.
The only other contemporary banjo player that I can think of who is comparable to her is Mary Z Cox, whose 'Florida Banjo' and 'Secret Life of Banjo' albums I would recommend.

Notwithstanding Keith’s Braverman-like intolerance, I shall follow-up on this helpful lead as part of my continuing banjo education. Brian

Having binge-listened Norah Brown’s albums I am now truly hooked. My problem with the banjo hitherto was its stridency. Norah’s sound has a mellowness I really like. As a result I may or may not have spent half a day in a specialist banjo shop, trying out several open back instruments. I also may not or may have left empty handed. Bearing in mind ocarolan’s sensibilities and the need not to get Martin over-excited, I won’t say any more for now. Brian

There is truly no deliverance…. Squeal like a pig if you must, but your cries won't be heard above the music of the b***o!

Visually a 1,000% improvement on Martin; but a banjo is still a banjo.
