I was in Will McNicol's College Zoom call on Sunday night and one of the players mentioned Derek Gripper. I hadn't heard of him before, so I looked him up and was blown away by this guy. He's transcribed kora music onto guitar and it's incredible. Besides that, his interpretation of the Bach Cello Suite No 1 is simply sublime. There's a video here, but his version on Spotify is way slower and much more to my liking.
I have a feeling I'll be listening to this guy a lot this week!

Ah yes, the old search function. Now why didn't I think of that!? Thanks Keith. I'm off to read some threads now.

An incredible musician who won't allow himself to be limited by the guitar. Nice bloke too. I have a great story about the time I heard him play with John Williams, for another time though. Cams, if you want to chat with me about playing his 'hit' Jarabi, send me a message. Jonny

Derek Gripper is amazing. I ran across his playing while watching a few Michael Watts' videos, where he is featured. Bach Cello Suite 1 in "C". That's pretty cool, for sure.
