I saw these too; must be from one consignee, I thought. Never seen one in the flesh; they seem to be almost mythical beasts, as with Rob Armstrong’s creations. The 12-fretter looks rather nice, but no idea what the neck profile is like, and the buyer’s premium would definitely bump up the final cost, so I should probably be prudent and sit on my hands.
It is quite an interesting catalogue this time around.

Very tempting...
I am wondering though whether these were actually built by David himself. There were a few years when both David and Nick Oddy were building under David's name, and Nick has gone on using it since David's death. It's a pity there's no build year listed as that might give more of a clue.
Either way though I might have to keep an eye on this one.

David Oddy fixed a mandolin for me years ago, when he was doing it he told me of someone in South Devon who collected his instruments and regularly asked him to make another for him - "he must have about eight by now". He seemed bemused as to why anyone would want more than one. He also called Steve Knightly a "lazy b****r" as he didn't change his strings regularly - so you're not alone leoroberts - (and neither am I)

He seemed bemused as to why anyone would want more than one. I knew someone in the north west who did the same thing. I think pretty much every time he went to collect one instrument he ordered the next one. David's prices were ridiculously low for instruments of that quality, which definitely appealed to repeat buyers!

Maybe it is worth interested parties sending the auction links over to them and ask for a ruling/assessment. Peter

It's a pity there's no build year listed as that might give more of a clue. Either way though I might have to keep an eye on this one. They are made by David towards the end of his life. I brought them in 2014/2015 from David himself in his living room in Exeter. The 000-12 likely still has my name on the label and the 14 fret 000 was silly money; under £1k when I got it. I went down to Exeter on the train from London to get the 000-12 having called David and asked what he was building. David showed me the 14 fret and a mandocello built from matching Pomelle Sapele. He let me take them both, with hiscox cases and I posted a cheque to him for £200 every month for 9 months. I massively regret selling the 000-12 but I have some phenomenal instruments today. The mandocello is under a spare bed at my dads house if anyone is interested. KR David

Hello Leo and the others....
I've got a 0000 from Simon, Sijos,
I like it a lot, and all the reviews you hear seem pretty accurate
So it has a kind relaxed presence...that sounds sweet but not in your face , but nothing not like Brook.
You may know that Glenns Guitars has a New Yorker for about 2400.
The guitar I swapped with Simon has already moved on...
Does that help?
All regards Peter H

I have a very nice David Oddy mandolin. Great instrument for a bargain price.

They went for £1300 and £1100 respectively. Plus byer's premium of course. Not cheap - but not extortionate, either.

I think someone's got a bargain there, even with the buyer's premiums. I see there's a Taran mandolin still up for grabs in the same auction too.
