Just spoke to Andertons and asked if they sell guitars on consignment. They said yes. They keep 50% of the sale price and you get the other 50%. Yikes. Am waiting for a reply from The Six String Collective. Will inform you of their rates when I find out. I emailed the Six String Collective last week and they ask for a reasonable 20% of the final sale price. There is also a £150 'media fee' to promote the instrument and a £40 shipping cost if you need to post the guitar to them.

I phoned them yesterday and got an answerphone telling me they were closed so please leave a message. I don't like answerphones so instead I sent a message from their website. They haven't responded yet. I called them again this morning. Same answerphone message. I also sent a message to Glen at Glen's Guitars yesterday and he got back to me this morning. I called him and he answered straight away. He asks for a flat fee of £300, with some caveats depending on value and so forth. I'd like to talk to Six String but it's been a little discouraging. Besides, customers have to use the same channels I did. If you don't reply to people they go elsewhere.

jonte Did they say specifically what the "media fee" is for? Is that a charge for taking pics of the guitar and doing a video with someone playing it?

jonte Did they say specifically what the "media fee" is for? Is that a charge for taking pics of the guitar and doing a video with someone playing it? From the email '£150 media fee for content creation which includes professional photography and demo video'. So pretty much, yes. I didn't call but sent several emails and I was waiting a good few days for each reply but Richard did eventually reply with an apology for taking so long. I think he's just really busy with starting up the new business. I haven't decided what I'm going to do yet. I'd rather try and sell it myself, I think. Sending my guitar away to be sold feels a bit odd, I'll see. Interesting to hear that Glenn does commission sales. I've dealt with him a few times, he's a good guy. Could be a bit more transparent on some details on guitars he's selling sometimes though.

I'm going to have a more in depth chat with Glen tomorrow but I'm also tempted to make a bit more effort selling mine before I had them to someone else.

I think he's just really busy with starting up the new business. I am pretty sure that Richard is holding down a normal full time job, and that this is a side hustle, for the time being anyway. Nevertheless, I am of the firm view that he should reply to messages within 24 hours, even if it is just an acknowledgment - if he isn't, it's disappointing. Peter

A few years ago I asked GuitarGuitar in Epsom if they sold on consignment, because I wanted to sell my Larrivee SD-60-TSB (absolutely lovely instrument, sounded wonderful, but the neck was way too wide for me and I just couldn't play it comfortably. I'd highly recommend these for anyone who likes slope-shoulder dreads and doesn't mind a wide neck).
They said no, but the boss offered me £550 cash for it, because he was "taking a chance". Hmmm... for an instrument that goes for anything up to £4k used? Needless to say I didn't take him up on his offer.

RE my previous post, I sold ny Crafter 12er to Richtone music in Sheffield. New price was about £400, they paid me £150, no quibble when I took it in. Also sold them a Marshall amp at the same time. Worked OK for me.

Worked OK for me. It's about scale though, isn't it. If selling privately is going to net you an extra £500 or £1000 that's a much greater incentive to at least give it a go than if it's £50 or £100.
