Going slightly off kilter for a moment here but some say a guitar is a living thing and has ‘soul’. This isn’t just a great opportunity for the lucky recipients, it’s also a wonderful chance for the guitar. If you were to be a guitar then this is surely the one to be. Most guitars end up with one owner and as such have to bear a lifetime playing the same old thing over and over again. That owner might be a strummer, a fingerpicker, a beginner or a seasoned pro. Or they might be one of those evil sadistic owners that just buy it as a piece of furniture to sit in the corner of the room because the owner thinks it makes him look cool – and it never gets played. This lucky guitar will spend its life playing every style at every level and will probably open up like no other guitar. It will be the envy of all other guitars. I love these thoughts and you are so right! It really will be such a useful exercise for us as guitar builders too.

Excellent idea! Sounds a bit like davewhite 's Guitar Road Trip from a couple of years ago, only on a different level and for a bigger audience. I played Rosie's guitar at Ian Brown's guitar 'do'... what did he have on his music stand? The Traveller TAB book davewhite and markt created with a great intro on the project by Dave, I showed it to Rosie. Jonny Yes I told Jonny I remembered this well, as I think it was travelling around forum members when I first started posting my build threads on here. Where did that guitar end up in the end Dave?

I think I read here that Kitty Macfarlane has it now. EDIT found a link acousticsoundboard.co.uk/thread/11753/kitty-macfarlane-sings-siren-buckley

Hi Rosie, we don't see Dave much in these parts, so I doubt he will respond very quickly. The Traveller, (it had a Gaelic name I can't remember) was a long time ago. I think maybe 15 years or so, and it ended up being fostered long term by Mark Thomson whom we also haven't heard from on this forum for a very long time. Dave produced many road trip instruments over the years including a mandolin, a Weissenborn style instrument, two parlour guitars identical except made in different woods, a Terz tuned guitar and some others I've forgotten. If I remember rightly some of them were given to be looked after long term by forum members (I'm pretty sure ocarolan had one of them) and I believe he sold some (I seem to remember leoroberts bought the mandolin) and kept some others. Gosh this forum has a long history. I always enjoyed looking after Dave's road trip instruments, and the different results obtained by the various forum members were always fascinating. By the way, your latest initiative seems like a brilliant one. I'm sure the instrument will enjoy a fascinating life. Paul

That wasn't one of Dave's road trip guitars, Paul. He also used to produce instruments specifically for young talented players to own. There were at least two, and may have been more. The Traveller was a fan fret guitar. I think it was an OM size instrument. It was certainly smaller than a dreadnought.
