I'm so fickle... Thus morning I've been finger picking and flat picking my Furch D32 SM. That could be the one .. That's the problem, isn't it. Tomorrow, it will be a different instrument. Peter ... but only because there is a choice - cut down to one instrument and that problem disappears! You also really get to know that "one" extremely well. I was a one guitar person for over 30 years .. until I came across a bargain I couldn't resist.... Keith

And I know that is the premise and the point of this thread. But a world I am not prepared to contemplate. Peter P.S. I know that I am very privileged to own more than one guitar... or indeed, own a guitar at all.

I’m bucking the trend and choosing something I don’t already own. I think if it was only one guitar for the rest of my life it would have to be a really really nice classical- something like a Simon Ambridge or a Kevin Aram. Would probably be a bit restrictive given the music I currently play, but I’m thinking that on the right instrument I could probably quite easily spend the rest of my days just studying the music of Bach. Robbie Or maybe a Ramirez?

For me, it would be my old nylon string Taylor NS32Ce. It's old, worth next to nothing, but it's the most comfortable guitar for me in every way. Best of all, it's very kind to my playing.

I've always thought that Ramirez are like the Rolls Royce of guitars, one to aspire to own. But I don't like cricket so I'll pass Would never be able to afford one anyway. But it makes me wonder what the ultimate nylon strung guitar is (not necessarily classical. I just prefer the sound of nylons)

I remember a thread similar to this 10 years or so on here, be interesting to see what I said. I'm guessing I haven't changed: something I can play all my repertoire on and something that will continue to inspire. Has to be nylon, my guitar by Paul Fischer will keep me going till I die I think.

My experience is limited to the cheaper end of the market but I’ll jump in and offer my Harley Benton Custom Line King-CE VS. I bought it as ‘B stock’ for £161. I finger pick and strum generally in my own weird style. Also I restrung it with some Ernie Ball Custom light strings. It’s got a lovely clear, broad tonal sound.

Which particular circle of hell is this? To play one/any guitar for the rest of your life? All day? Every day? and night? Wot - no time to sleep, eat, go to the lavvy? Eugh! I love my guitars (all of 'em, that's why I got 'em) but to neglect all but one? Blimey! -even D'addario XS strings would wear out every week or two, and refretting would be necessary .. buy how when you are playing continuously? Ok, I'm 76 and nearly dead, so this torture may not last long, but if I EVER had to reduce my collection, at present, at least, I'd keep my 21 year old Collings 0002h which is the one I prefer to use for teaching, and is currently "on song" (I mean it is enjoying this hot weather and "singing")

I’d say my Turnstone TM but my Santa Cruz Skye runs it close.

On a similar note, I was having a good practice session with the nylon string today and after playing I decided to see how it sounded on the steely dreadnought. Much louder of course but also it sounded a bit twangy, almost nasal. I then tried it on the smaller Tanglewood Super Folk. Again a bit twangy but without the deep bottom end and less volume. But which do I prefer to play? I can't really say!
