What with full time work - sometimes more than full time 😡 and looking aftermy wife who is awaiting her second knee op, finding time to practice is difficult for me. However I keep at least one guitar upstairs and one downstairs where I can pick them up easily and take a couple of minutes when opportunities arise, like waiting for kettle to boil etc. When I do sit down with some dedicated time I have set my self the objective of playing something that I am struggling with for 20 minutes until I am happy that I can play it through to my liking. That may be a chord progression link or even an entire song. After the 20 minutes have passed I allow my self to do whatever I feel, sometimes I extend the 20 minutes and other times I will play through a few songs or play whatever I feel.

Just as a very minor update, this is one of several things I'm working on this month. It's a short guitar break from Russ Barenberg, who is one of my favourite players. This tune is generally played a fair bit faster than this (220 bpm here) but I'm not really fluent at this tempo yet, let alone faster. I'll get there, though - over time. All the backing - bass / "mandolin" chops and so on are all played on this same Tanglewood. The first chorus is just the melody, harmonised, then I run through the solo three times.

Sounds great to me Derek, and plenty fast enough. Very nicely done indeed. I've only seen Russ B on Transatlantic Sessions from years back, but loved the way he always played for the song and added elegant fills just where necessary. And he was more than capable of taking solos when called upon. Lovely player. Keith
