Back to the OP. Martin strings are pretty much the same as the other major brands. These are very favourable prices, so thanks, Leo.

My main instrument is: probably needing new strings

Indeed. I wasn't suggesting the strings were any better or worse than any others - just that the prices were quite good and, with Christmas coming up ....

I quite like the Martin SP strings A lost soul we see here, ensnared in a web of iniquity and shame. The baleful shadow of the Coating casts its gloom o'er the multitude. Thine backward voice is to utter foul speeches and to detract, for the SP hath a zing most pleasant, an evenness of tone most equitable and beauty doth varnish age as if new-born.

Thine backward voice is to utter foul speeches and to detract, for the SP hath a zing most pleasant, an evenness of tone most equitable and beauty doth varnish age as if new-born. Such foolishness is this! For is it not said, like even unto he that gildeth the lily, the man that coateth the perfectly good string in search of a life everlasting casteth his money upon the waters. Let not the good wiremaker's craft be defiled in this way! There is a season for squeaking, and a season for sweet sounds; a season for corrosion, and a season for more corrosion. So be it, string-changing without end.

Is this the last resting place of The Lost Prophets? ..... only the uncoated ones. My next set will go down a storm then, some 'Pierre Ben & Susan' DADGAD ones:

"Wyres Strings are soft to the touch and elegantly musical. In addition they offer a P.T.F.E. (polymer tetra-fluoro-ethylene) enhanced line of strings. The proprietary coating does not inhibit or diminish the sound while providing a barrier to air, moisture and perspiration. They sound wonderful, feel great under the fingers and allow for an extensive use of their sustain to “work” the touch, the tone and the history of the note."
Ah, the soft temptations of Coatist gibberish. Brothers of the Box, I implore you: read such writings with a mind that is clear and not twisted by the words of the weasel. Shine the light of reason into the dark shadows of advertising copy. Look into your heart and ask, do I want real strings or plastic-coated abominations? Should music be made through the strange ministrations of plumber's sealant? And, why would I deny myself the good and wholesome pleasure of changing my strings with the waxing of the moon, or when a friend has played my guitar having partaken of Pork Scratchings, whichever is the sooner? Consider, and then do the right thing.

Oh Dr Jug, your words are wise We do not follow the advertising lies But we love the strings coated thus Porky Scratchy fingers we would not trust I look into my heart as you suggest And still find the coated ones sound best Plumber's sealant is such to shout about For it stops the bad notes all leaking out! Changing strings at the waxing moon Will not keep your uncoated strings in tune The waning moon is the best time, some say And a full moon definitely the time to play So Bensusan's strings will soon be in place To put a smile upon my whiskery coated face Wholesome pleasures will then be the key To the ringing resounding trill of P.T.F.E. With apologies to any poets out there.

And now you should put it to music Unfortunately I am more of a writer (some may say) than musician. Currently working on the lyrics to two songs. One is 'The Ballad of William Wood' who was murdered up the road from where I live in 1823: William Wood Info Here.
Another one about a gamekeeper at Lyme Park who seemed quite a character: Joseph Watson Info Here. Also researching the origins of Jon (Steeleye) Span and Horkstow Grange, quite topical with the Wintersmith tour at the moment.
