Mrs. Arturo keeps the central heating quite high in our house too. I keep all my guitars in their cases and well away from the radiators in the lounge and spare room. The only advice I've ever heeded was to keep a satchel of silica gel in the case and so far (touch wood) I've not noticed any issues. Has anyone else tried this?

If I left instruments in cases I'd a) not have enough room for them and b) never play them ... so I just try and keep an eye on things and hope for the best

I'm going to Nonthaburi, just up the river form Bangkok. Not very interesting but a nice place to live, although just about my favourite thing to do there is to take the river boat from Non, right through Bangkok. You get the best views of the city and all for 15 Baht! Acoustics are popular there, you can get all the high end Martins and Taylors and there are a few local makers as well but I've never come across any mention of problems with the climate. The heat and humidity is pretty extraordinary for most of the year but I only experience the fret sprout mentioned above in Britain, probably because of central heating. Thanks for the info. I didn't know that acoustics were popular there, I didn't come across many guitars in the couple of months I was in Thailand, but that was probably down to being in the tourist areas! Good luck with the move. Please post here on the forum to say you've moved and settled into your new place!

For a few years now I've kept a hygrometer/thermometer in my study where my guitars are sitting in their cases and one in my practice room, ATM it is 47 RH and generally hovers about there most of the year. Occasionally I've seen it as high as 53 RH in the practice room, but it has mainly stayed in the 40-50 RH all year round and I check daily. So I have not encountered any problems although YMMV. When it is so cheap to buy, a hygrometer is surely worth it from a peace of mind POV.

I am going to get a hygrometer too. We have a dehumidifier that shows incredible variation in ambient levels, especially in the summer when warm air holds more moisture. I would expect a good guitar case to provide the necessary protection but this thread has prompted me to check properly. Thanks to missclarktree for raising the issue in the first place and to all the other helpful contributors. Brian

Well I got a humidifier but its reading 120 peseta = 1 Euro so I think its wrong
Shouldn't really have let that bloke on the market sell it to me for 50p, he said it would do tyre pressures as well but not sure I believe him I think his name was Del.

There's also a nostril-hair remover version for those tv close-ups. The left-handed model is extra. I bought one of these too. It's on the return slow-boat right now; tinyurl.com/pjmdaed

I don't worry as such, however I do keep an eye on it because in the past fret ends have appeared slightly. I have one of these: linkI keep my eye on it for low 45 and high 65. I never leave them out if it is getting close to the lower or upper reading but in any case a general rule I don't leave them out if I'm not playing them. Seems to work ok so far Phil Took delivery of mine today 3.20 post inc can't be bad no battery though seems ok will report back later on performance Hoped it might have a tuner on it but no such luck

Yes, mine arrived yesterday too . I'm actually thankful that it doesn't contain a non-rechargeable battery. It's time they were banned anyway. It's bigger than I expected and it looks real posh . How can they sell it all the way from China for under four quid - arriving in a few days- when an equivalent item bought locally costs far more and takes longer ? Now, if only I can find a spare rechargeable AAA I'll see if it works

Never had a problem with it, but then again my guitars are laminates, so not a problem.
