Hi folks,
well I've just signed up from the "other place" and thought I'd start by updating everyone on my fylde that I'm currently waiting for.
i did post this before but thought I'd do it again for here...
so I visited fylde on my honeymoon in October (how I wrangled that I don't know!) and spent some time playing guitars and speaking to roger about what I wanted . I was keen on a smallish guitar that would work well for light playing finger style, and he suggested that the softer woods work better for that, and I was keen on the Alexander shape so I used that as my basis.
my guitar will be the based on the Alex shape, but with Honduras mahogany back and sides, 45mm nut width and goth 510 tuners.
not a massive change from the original specs, but enough to make it feel like my guitar rather than a standard model...
the guitar should be with me around June time...

Hi Jack and welcome! June isn't that long to wait, and I know from playing Keith's Alexander that you're in for one belter of a guitar! Enjoy the anticipation

Another adherent of the Fylde Faith - excellent! I too am having one created. Despite being an age, world-weary cynic, I am finding the process (and even the wait) suprisingly excited. Delayed gratification can be better than the instant kind...

I understand that completely Brian - it was the whole process of thinking about, specifying, commissioning and yes, even waiting for, my own custom Fylde that rekindled in me that child-like sense of anticipation, excitement and enthusiasm (steady on there)that I had long thought to have been knocked out of me by just the world-weariness and cynicism you mention. Surprised by joy! (sorry CSL)

It is indeed true that sometimes the journey can be as exciting as the destination. And as Jack rightly says, the feeling that you have somehow contributed to the design makes its rather more personal.

Thanks for the welcome!
Yes, the waiting is both agonising and also quite satisfying as I know the reason I'm waiting is because you can't just go and get my guitar, it's being made solely because I asked it to be!
I didn't want to go too far down the 'custom' route - I wanted something that stuck to the Fylde aesthetic and wasn't going to cost me too much more than a regular model.
The small changes I have made though i think I'll be really happy with - the 45mm should feel great with those nice wide frets, Roger said that changing from sapele to mahogany would make the guitar lighter, more responsive, and warmer too, and the Gotoh 510s are just the best tuners out there I think!
Still, I wish it was only a week or two away!

Nope I moved my J45TV on after about 6 months - it was a good guitar, but was a little big for me and seemed to respond best to a heavier touch, which I, increasingly, don't have.
I then picked up a Martin 00015sm which I also had for about 6 months - again, a really nice guitar, but it always felt like a cheap version of my OM28, so I never really played it that much.
I've moved that on now to help towards the Fylde. It will be my third acoustic in 18 months after owning only my Martin for four years, but this time I decided what I really wanted was something that was equal to (or better than) my Martin but very different in tone, feel and style.
Although I think I'll be delighted with my Fylde, if it doesn't live up to my expectations I've made a promise to myself to keep it and play it for at least two years, and to not buy any other acoustics in that time.
I think it really takes that amount of time for an acoustic to start developing into the instrument it will become and I don't want to make any rash decisions.
However, judging by the guitars I played at Roger's workshop, and the comments from owners, I don't think I'll be disappointed!

I don't think you'll be disappointed.
I'm a Martin girl through and through. Will be saving up for an 000-18GE once my old Gibson has had a neck reset. It will be the perfect guitar to pair with my adi/madi dread.

It will be the perfect guitar to pair with my adi/madi dread. I was also looking at a 00018 style guitar, but I couldn't find anything that didn't have a) 1 11/16 nut and b) 'straight' bracing, apart from the GE which, i don't think, is available in the UK because of the Braz rosewood headplate. I was really hoping Martin was going to update the 00018 in the same way that they updated the D18 last year at this years NAMM show, but they didn't, they bought out another John Mayer sig instead!

Here's a Fylde Family foto just to heighten the anticipation chaps - Attachment DeletedL to R Oberon (now sold) : Orsino (not mine) : Custom Alexander : Ariel Walnut Touchstone mandolin : Octavius bouzouki Keith Aha! It worked - just realised there's an "attachment" button in the compose post screen - it means it's possible to upload a photo straight from PC rahther than having to go via an intermediate hosting site, unlike on the previous forum. Excellent!

I have rarely looked forward to anything as much as this guitar. Brian
