What a great week! Fairport on Tuesday and last night went to see S&G Story at Newark. Didn't know what to expect as sometimes these 'story of' shows are disappointing; either because they try to 'act out' the songs with a thin storyline (the worst example of which is the appalling 'We Will Rock You' where great songs are nearly ruined by Ben Elton's puerile story) or a mediocre 'impression' act.
This show was BRILLIANT, just a simple presentation of the songs with introductions from the duo and a backdrop of stills with events that were happening at the time. The guitar work of 'Paul Simon' and the backing group was outstanding and the harmonies close to perfect; close your eyes and you were there with them. 'Art''s rendering of Bridge was just awesome and brought the house down.
I think the tour has about 80 venues still to go so if you like S&G, or just want a great dose of nostalgia, for about £17.50 it's too good to miss (and I'm not on a cut!). Didn't want it to stop.
