Looking good Dave, Lutz and it's parent white spruce are without doubt the best of the North American spruces, possibly nearly as good as Hughenden Valley Port Orford Cedar, nearly.

Thanks Shubs. No toner used, that's just the effect of nine years of ultraviolet Lutz is a hybrid of Sitka and White spruce from British Columbia and feels and behaves a lot like European spruce. Kingwood is a Rosewood ( Dalbergia cearensis) and is a very dense one similar in some ways to Cocobolo. It makes a fabulous fretboard but is not that common in large pieces as it comes from small trees - Madinter very occasionally have back and side sets. Cheers for the info Dave about the Lutz. Looks like lovely stuff. I find the ageing of Sitka (and Lutz) very pleasing aesthetically. Interesting Kingwood behaves like Cocobolo in some ways. I have well played Mexican flamenco guitar with a cocobolo fretboard which is in amazing condition, no fretboard wear in the slightest bit. I've been meaning to start a Coodercaster partscaster build and saw Warmoth offer Kingwood as a fretboard, I may go for it if I do take the Warmoth route.

Thanks Colin, So here are my four Celtic Festival Instruments - left to right "Imbolc", "Bealtine", "Lughnasa" and "Samhain". All were built with adjustable neck systems but the two guitar-citterns - "Imbolc" and "Bealtine" - have been converted to fixed necks:

They look superb, davewhite. I must have a go on one of the citterns at some stage...
