The Macassar ebony fretboard is marked and the fret slots cut: The board is then tapered allowing for the Macassar ebony binding: The end of the fretboard is cut to match the soundhole and the Macassar ebony binding with b/w/b purfling bent on the hot pipe and glued onto the fretboard: The side binding pieces are then glued on using fish glue: The side dot marker positions are marked and drilled with a 2mm brad point bit and the markers glued in: The fretboard is then glued to the neck using fish glue:

Then the neck is carved - a simple task of identifying the bits that aren't neck and carving them off : The holes for the two 6mm carbon fibre rod neck-heel stiffeners are drilled and the rods glued in using fish glue: The Bubiga heel cap is fitted - this will later be bound with Macassar ebony and bwb purfling: Next the back and sides are pore filled using egg white: The fingerboard is radiused and then fretted using Gold EVO fretwire: Next the Macassar ebony bridge is made. First the saddle slots are routed: Then the bottom of the bridge is profiled to match the top curvature: The bridgepin holes are drilled and countersunk after the back face of the bridge has been angled: The rest of the bridge is shaped and then it is positioned correctly on the top and the outer two bridgepin holes drilled through: The tuner holes are marked and drilled with a 10mm drill bit: Then it's spray time: It looks like Cinderella will go to the ball on Sunday

A piece of Macassar ebony binding with bwb purfling is bent on the hot pipe and a channel routed for it in the heel cap: The binding is glued in using fish glue: When the glue is dry the heel cap is sanded flush - here's the result: Now the neck needs finishing, the bridge gluing on and then it's set up time

The finish is leveled and polished and the finish beneath the bridge carefully removed: The bridge is then glued on using hot hide glue:

Martin - thanks. The label is signed and glued in: Then the guitar is set up - here's the result: Five weeks from start to finish - not bad  I recorded a couple of things quickly today in DADGAD - I like this guitar and its sound and I think it will mature into a tone monster. As Keith has played a Kostal MD I'll let him judge/compare when he arrives this evening and he can play it in standard ;D First is a bit of "strummage" (subtitled "Is that a big D chord or are you just pleased to see me" ) around Richard Thompson's "Down Where the Drukards Roll" played with a thin Dunlop pick: "Strummage"Next the piece I wrote for Bernd "Bernd's" played with bare fingertips and no thumb pick: "Bernd's"Both were recorded into my Zoom H4n and there are no EQ tweeks or added effects.

Keith, Thanks - yes Matt's BB should be ready for him to collect at the end of March. His girlfriend is Irish and has pointed out that I have been cross dressing "Buachaill" is masculine and "Mhór" is feminine so his guitar will be "Buachaill Mór" as will any others I make. Mine will stay as it is as I'm a big Eddie Izzard fan and as the only male in a female household it seems to be well (mis)named
