Fran,
Welcome as the first entrant. I'll get Martin to set this up as a separate entrant thread in this section and let the others pile in with any questions. I liked the Soundcloud and Youtube clips and it's interesting that you are playing at the "End of The Road" festival as my daughters go to that one every year. Would you like to give us a brief history of how "Birthday Girl" came about and why that name?

Fran, firstly, a warm welcome to the Forum - hope you'll make yourself at home here and join in some of the general mayhem. And secondly, congrats on being the first competition entrant - enjoyed your video and Soundcloud track especially - maybe you could get someone to take some video of your "End of the Road" set and post it here as part of your entry so we can see/hear the "live" band? Nice one Fran...lovely moment when the bass keys? kick in...good luck in the competition. I remember doing something similar to you at around the same age...although then it was about everyone crowding round the built in mic on a portable cassette recorder..  Expect that you still cook vats of Spag Bol/Curry mix that last a few days..  For me lyrics, melody and harmonies are the key to being listened to [and hopefully success]...there are any number of talented instrumental guitarists out there that never get past first base. Will be interested to see how it goes for you and the band.. |

Yes Andrew I'm a big fan of ominous bass notes and drones to add atmosphere. And yes we have been known to have curry/spag bol for breakfast. We're playing an intimate acoustic show on Saturday in Matlock, I'll try to get a video to post up here. Thanks for the kind words Fran Good luck with the gig... Those on AcousticLife may remember the recording I did with Birthday Girl in the cave during the summer.
Great to see you on here Fran - sorry I've missed your gigs, I'd love to be there, but still in the south of France. You must have a new pro-active manager.
You don't know it, but I've been promoting your stuff on here for a while due to the connection with Ewan.
So, good luck. Where's Ewan then?
