Wonderful thread Bernd, nice looking guitar as well. I have just bought a slide from `diamond bottlenecks`, as `bluesboytoby` has sugested. What a difference they make. Great service from Ian and worth every penny. Cheers and good luck.

bernd just a couple of points i would have thught the guitar would take the strain of tunning to open d i have an ols encore dread that i tune to both open d & open g with 15 -56 strings with no problems i would not try tunning up any further, i go opend or g then capo at the second for open e & a , get a decent slide try diamond slides made to fit you so worth every penny & ian mcwee is a great guy to deal with. Agreed - I wouldn't tune any higher with those gauges

Thanks a lot for the advice ! And I'll certainly have a look at diamondbottlenecks.com !
I'm just back from Switzerland (I hate those 500 mile rides) and my project for this weekend is doing at least a short clip about how that guitar sounds.

I finally managed to do a very very short recording of my noodling to show you how the River Belle sounds now. The guitar is tuned to Open D major, the slide is a Dunlop Glass. Of course, my play is very very basic and sounds crap as I only started to learn what can be done, but without playing it I can't do any recording, so I fear you have to go through that And though it might sound just horrible, it's great fun to play Again, a big Thank You to slidingwolf for introducing this great new guitar world to me. Thanks Martin ! Test Clip River Belle

Bernd, Great start - you are certainly finding those "stinky notes". The guitar sounds good. Plenty of scope for mouth organ second tracks

Thanks a lot for your kind words, Gentlemen I think that now, after I finished the small changes on my trusted old guitar, I can claim that it's absolutely worthwhile to invest a few quid on a retired guitar and try something different. A multi track recording with some slide guitar and a harmonica is a tempting idea Dave. But that will definitely take a lot more time

But that will definitely take a lot more time Bernd, No need to multi-track just get an old wire coat hanger and make one of those contraptions that Dylan used to use on his guitar (that's Bob and the rabbit in "The Magic Roundabout" )

Ohhh, those instruments of torture are okay for some chord playing, but for cool single notes and nice overblows you just need to have your hands free

Excellent stuff, Bernd! Very slidey I agree the 'neck brace' for moothie is an odd looking thing, and I didn't particularly like Dylan's harmonica work, but they can be very useful and some folk play really well using them...

Even without a guitar in my hands I wouldn't be able to play harmonica like that Martin.
Especially when it comes to real bluesy stuff you just have to cup the harmonica with both hands to get the bluesy sound.
Imagine him trying to do that while playing guitar at the same time (that video can't be embedded, have to watch it on youtube):
