Here's something I unfortunately had to learn with regard to thumbpicks: They are absolutely essential if you suffer from a beginning arthrosis in your thumb joint.
Without the pick I had to somehow draw the thumb away from the fingers in order to get a clean bass sound. Can't do that anymore, I'm afraid. The pick, however, allows picking the bass strings while keeping the thumb more closely to the index finger. I would be lost without this little gadget.

I'd usually use a Dunlop M thumbpick, and find it quite comfortable. I don't even hack away at the protruding bit first I find the Fred Kelly picks a bit lightweight, and they tend to move around on my thumb while playing, unlike the Dunlop. In saying all of that, I've gone back to just using thumb sans pick recently, and prefer the sound and feel.

I use a Fred Kelly orange on my resonator and have tried metal fingerpicks on that too. The fingerpicks really kill the strings quickly I find. Generally I just use flesh and nails.

Just another vote for Fred Kelly Slick Pick, orange delrin version. Apart from that it's bare fingers, I do have some pro-picks which I use occasionally for lap slide.

I've been using the Fred Kelly Speed Pick for about a week now and really like it. I got both the light and medium. The light is too light for me, but the medium is working out pretty well.

Just got some more off ebay (thumb picks only!) due to putting a load in a bag and putting the bag in that safe place where no one will ever see it again!
But I did see a listing for angled thumb picks - Anyone have experience/opinions on those? Looked a bit no to me

Felt very weird and the blades were too thick. Not for me, though some love them. Keith
