As an initial post on here, I'll begin by saying I no longer have any electric guitars, but I do have an electric bass! It's a Fender MP Jaguar, and I play it through a Kustom 100W amp. I recently changed to D'Addario flat wound strings and this instrument is now a joy to play! Here's a pic of it (sorry for my daft gurning):  |

The white telecaster has some modifications done to it. I put stacked humbucker pickups in it and wired it with switches so each pickup can be single coil or humbucked. I also added a Wilkinson bridge to solve intonation problems. It's the guitar I mainly use.

The 'tele' is a real beauty. As I said in the suggestion topic that led to this section, I've grown very fond of the telecaster shape and sound over the years. Used to always want a Gibson LP, and while I still do, I'm less concerned about it now.
I guess if I was serious (performing live for example) I could sell a lot of acoustic stuff and get the Gibson & Marshall set I used to dream about, but I think those days have passed.
I'm also very interested in the last guitar you posted - you built it yourself?
How difficult was that? Was it just bolting compatible parts together or were there modifications required? What different parts did you use?

What different parts did you use? I always used to think a Les Paul was the guitar for me. I got a black 1978 Les Paul 25/50 Anniversary when I was 16 and had it for years, but traded it for the Stratocaster. Really got on well with the Fender for years, but every time I went to buy a new guitar, I always walked past the Tele's. One day, I gave in, and the thing that got me the most was how responsive the sound was. It's like playing an acoustic - very unforgiving if you make a mistake, and beautiful sounding when you get it right. You can also do behind the nut bends, which are cool  The flame telecaster I built myself around a pair of Seymour Duncan "vintage" Tele pickups. Every time I had some spare cash, I'd buy another part, and it gradually became. It's a great wee guitar, sounds and plays well, although when I get the urge, I think I'd like to sort out the neck properly - it sits quite high compared to the white one, and the frets and nut could do with some attention. It wasn't difficult to build, but then again, I've usually had most of my guitars apart at some point, so it was just like reassembling a disassembled guitar. I got the body and neck from Axesrus and most of the hardware was Wilkinson. I think I might have had to visit other sites to get the mounting plate for the neck pickup, since it's not got the standard Tele pickguard. |

Interested to hear your comment re the acousticish character to Teles - this has always been my impression, but only based on a few moments experience. Looks like Telecasters are the electric of choice of us gentlemen of an acoustic persuasion. Here's my red Fender Telecaster JD - Japanese, about 1990 as far as I recall. A great guitar and excellent value compared to the American Jerry Donaghue Signature on which it was based - just needed to uprate the pick ups and it was just the same for £1000 less money. Shame they don't make them like that any more. The band was called Obviously Five Believers - we did one gig recreating Bob Dylans 1966 'Judas' tour - great fun. Attachment Deleted |

Here's my bass, Hofner 500/1 1965. In theory I'm supposed to be selling it but I'm beginning to think it's too nice to sell. I just love the short scale and the hollow body (it's as light as a feather) and with flat wound strings it just sounds so Jazz!  Keith II |

I figure it deserved a proper Hofner case Martin, couldn't stretch for a date perfect one though, they go for about £400 when you can find them!
