Well, I've spent several months messing around without actually building anything but I reckon I've now come up with a system to try. It's not precisely the same as my plans earlier in this thread and it involves a Howe-Orme type gap between heel and body but, being old and stubborn, ( nkforster), I've stuck with pivoting as near the strings as possible. Having decided what I needed, I sought out a local chap with a workshop in his shed and here's what he knocked up for me. Just arrrived today: I'll leave it as a New Year's puzzle for any luthiers ( francis ) watching and spell it out after you've had a chance to study the picture - closely. (These are m6 by the way).

OK so you have right and left handed threads on each rod. The cylindrical nuts on each end are threaded to suit so you can expand or contract at three points... Good luck with the alignment on these Happy new year

You might be right, francis , but don't let that put the rest of you off. PS Since they are cylindrical, they align themselves - at least, that's the plan. Hope the double thread will defend it against the "whammy-bar" effect, too, ( davewhite).
