Definitely incredible in a good way, I've looked at loads of custom build threads but I've never seen anything quite like it. I'll be following with great interest, I wonder what the sound will be like compared with your previous builds?

You could, of course, get Nigel Forster (nkforster ) to make you one of these. Then you'd know for sure what a proper one sounds like!

I've been struck down by my second dose of flu within 4 weeks despite having a flu jab for the first time ever in October so things have gone a bit quiet in the workshop...

Thanks for your support, leoroberts . Unfortunately, Mrs R the F is suffering equally and teenage boys aren't the kindest carers!

Don't worry - you're on the right thread. I just thought I'd try to compete with Ted Åstrand's beautifully evocative pictures of his guitar building process. I thought if I turned up the light a bit, desaturated the images, brought in a bit of vignette round the edges, I might just achieve that clean organised look of complete control that scottish0177 's guitar is experiencing. I know I haven't got the sensor-size to get the full differential focus thing going but, nevertheless, I might get something of the cool north. It turns out I don't stand a chance: you see I just don't have a tidy workshop and things are done on the cheap here and very much along the lines of Heath-Robinson. Can you imagine Ted with bits of bicycle inner-tube and some toy cramps from Braintree market being used to clamp his sound-hole linings in position. Neither can I. I'll just have to carry on aspiring to his level of perfection along with everyone else and muddle through as best I can. So, let's start again in full technicolor:
These are pictures of the vertical liner being fixed in place. I used yellow glue (Titebond original) but it might make more sense to fill the gaps by using Cascamite next time I do this. The next step was to glue a strip approximately 2.5mm square around the outside of (and up against) the protruding parts of this liner. I did the inside one first and again made the wrong choice of glue; I used hot-hide glue for its instant tack since I couldn't think of a good way of cramping it in position. No photos, I'm afraid, but it should hold up okay even if it doesn't look too beautiful. It was a practice run for the outside ring, which will be on show, so here I had to sort out some way of cramping it all together. A quick trip into Cambridge this morning and along to Maplin's:
Once again, no prizes for elegance and it was all a bit sticky but this time I did use the right glue: Cascamite with some added Burnt Umber to fill up any unsightly gaps.
At the moment it looks as if some mad shaman has been at work but the truth will out only when it all comes off in the morning...

R the F It's not the sensor size its the lens aperture that dictates how long a depth of field (depth of focus relates to the image at the sensor - that's different!) you attain in an image (plus some other things like subject distance and focal length and...)

Thanks for the knowhow, francis . Nevertheless, the upshot of all this is that, given my chosen camera-position/view/perspective/framing, I cannot achieve increased focus-differentiation (= reduced depth of field) without buying a camera with a bigger sensor.

In addition to Francis' comment - select the widest aperture possible on your camera... f-stop 1.4, 2.0 etc. ... not f16 for example. That will achieve what you want. It's the lens, not the sensor. Let me know which camera you have and I can be more specific if you're not sure how to achieve this.
Cheers
Jonny

Thanks, jonnymosco (and francis again) but I'm afraid cameras like mine can only dream of apertures like f1.4 - wide open it's about f3.5. Incidentally, I do understand about apertures and depth of field and so on; in the good old days I was quite a keen amateur zone-system photographer; I used to use a medium format camera and carry three OM1 bodies with me at all times with films all set for different contrast development procedures - all black and white of course - and I used to develop and print in my own darkroom as did my father before me. I even dabbled in selenium toning... What I was trying to say last night was that my woodworking workshop and methods are not as organised and precise as Ted's. The differential focus thing was a bit of a red herring (but google "sensor size and differential focus" if you don't believe me)!
