I d love to know the acoustic players that people are either inspired by or a fan of. The world is littered with electric guitar players and normally if you ask any average person they could name two or three guitar players they like. I bet 95% would name an electric player.
I like a te a lot of acoustic blues and singer songwriting stuff and I think I like the songs more than the players. So please educate me.With electric players I feel I can identify a player by the tone and style ( BB King, kosoff, Peter green as examples ) but less so with acoustic players.

Almost too many to mention, but these few come to mind right now as players (many of whom are also singers) I admire -
Ralph McTell, James Taylor, John James, Paul Simon, Wizz Jones, Clive Carroll, Nic Jones, Chris Newman, Ken Nicol, Richard Thompson, Ben Walker, and Phil Taylor (of this parish).

Most of the above plus Hamish Imlach and John Doyle. Oh and David Rawlings and Kenneth Pattengale who both play like I'd love to be able to play.

Lots and lots of people really. Early influences include Roy Harper, Ian Anderson, Nick Drake, James Taylor, and John Renbourn. Then I shifted my attention towards blues: Robert Johnson, Mississippi John Hurt, Rev Davis, Ben Andrews and many others. These days, I'm more interested in songwriters rather than guitar players.

I'll choose some names that haven't been mentioned yet. I agree with lavaman, I'm getting too old to be impressed just by guitar pyrotechnics so my list is of songwriters who also play a mean guitar: Chris Smither, Doug McLeod, Guy Davis, Bruce Cockburn and John Smith.
