I didn’t go! I’m just glad Ben has stopped talking to me through his videos. For now I guess!

Hi all,
It was a fun one last year wasn't it Jonny! Sadly we had to charge this year (as much as we would have loved to have done it for free) just to cover the costs of the acts as well as the food and drinks. We do try to make all our events free for anyone to come and attend. So please do keep a look out on the website for any event that takes your fancy.
Have a great week and feel free to pop in any time.
Cheers. Ben M

I saw the photos, including the one Tom took (?) and Peter S's - it looks like it was a good night.
Cheers

Just wanted to say a few personal words about TNAG given some of the comments on this thread and previously.
I have to say that all my dealings with them both with Michael and then subsequently with Ben have been unequivocally excellent.
I think that there are a few things that they are being criticised for which, when properly considered, cant properly be laid at their door.
First, in terms of the targeted adds on google, facebook or similar (yes I get them too) they are more a function of our own searches and the google/facebook algorithms. If, like me, a lot of your internet traffic is about guitars then you will be targeted for adverts. Having PPC or SEO campaign is simply part of running a business commercially in the 21st Century (as to which see the second point).
Second, from my personal perspective it is great to have as many quality guitar shops and guitar resources based in the country. TAMCO is great. I fell in love for the first time at Ivor Mairants (totally blown away by the first Lowden I had seen nearly 30 years ago). TNAG is great as well - Jason Kostal, Michael Greenfield et al, great video resources - can’t go wrong with that. We have all seen good guitar shops, magazines and other resources go out of business over the years. It is being commercial that keeps the shops in business - as long as that commerciality doesn’t get in the way of service. I would much rather have a TNAG than another box shifter of generic guitars.
Third, unless you are a professional actor, no-one’s videos are going to be perfect. Many videos have the propensity to be a bit annoying. On balance, the suite of TNAG videos are a good resource in my personal opinion.
There is no getting away from the fact that there was a lot of goodwill and affection for Michael Watts who was a top player, a font of knowledge and a gentleman to boot. That doesn’t mean that the post-Watts TNAG is not a great outfit or that Ben doesn’t give great service. To give one recent example, I asked Ben about who he used to ship as I was selling a guitar privately. Ben arranged and paid for the shipping despite there being nothing in the sale for TNAG.
Not saying TNAG or any shop is perfect but thought it important to set the record straight.
Greg

Thanks Greg ( K Tresp) for bringing some much needed balance to this thread. I have been on the verge of closing/deleting it on several occasions but I'm glad my patience has been rewarded. benmontague - welcome to the Forum, Ben. Hope you'll enjoy it here! Keith

On the subject of remarketing, I Googled the name of a certain high-end gentleman's tailors from my phone the last time there was a controversial thread on the North American Guitar Company on this forum & I still get a half dozen ads for it every time I look at a story on the website of my favourite current affairs magazine...

Keith I think I may have been a little disappointed if you had Keith unless I don't understand properly. Just for clarification are you saying that unless any thread, review or whatever about shops, products, services, artists etc. has a balanced view from both sides of the discussion it is in danger of being deleted? Perhaps I've missed something but I can't see anything particularly controversial in this thread. Apart from one recent post that goes off on a tangent and should have been a separate thread it's about advertising and marketing isn't it Phil

In the interests of balance, TAMCo have now also started bombarding facebook with many many posts. You can even buy the items from Tamco now via facebook. There's progress for you.

Perhaps I could have expressed it better. No danger at all of the kind of deletions you mention. The lack of "balance" was not my concern; and in the end I took no action anyway. Just thinking aloud.... Keith

Hi All, apologies for the remarketing ads on Facebook & Google, just something we all have to do nowadays I'm afraid. Andy if you clear your cookies, I think that should do it provided you don't visit the site, then it automatically remarkets to you. Birthday event was a fantastic night Clive and Will were outstanding as always. We have our Greenfield event next week, which you are all welcome to attend. We have a talk by Michael Greenfield and a live performance from Pipo Romero. This one is a free event. Enjoying this thread...all the best. Ben M (aka demented 80s DJ / Used car salesman).

I have no problems with TNAG advertising benmontague though I found the videos to be rather annoying and this is maybe something to think about when planning your Facebook campaigns. Facebook seems to have changed a lot recently. Traditionally if you clicked on the top right link you saw the option 'Why am I seeing this?' Recently some video adds seem to have a different set of menu options and it doesn't give that options — worse it 'suggest' that you have chosen to follow people when you haven't. I don't understand this but I think it reflects necessarily badly on companies that innocently just purchase the adverting. It may be the way of the world at th moment but as we can see everyday people are beginning to challenge these new 'norms'. I am simply suggesting this is with considering. On a more positive note, I really appreciate the videos with different guitar players. These is a point — I suppose — in always playing the same piece of music but I think this is too .limiting. It is fascinating to see how a particular instrument call to a specific tune or inspires an original doodle. You've also introduced me to some players I've not heard of before which is good news. Life as a niche musician is hard! SaveSave
