Hello! My name is Greg Russell. I am 20 and currently at University in Exeter. I first started playing the guitar around the age of 14 and begun to go to local folk clubs etc soon after. As things progressed I played solo for a few years and had the opportunity to support some incredible acts such as Lau and Karine Powlart. About 18 months ago I joined with Ciaran Algar, a 17 year old violin player from Stoke and ever since we have been playing venues and festivals. I'd love the opportunity to play the Samhradh and feel it could really help develop my sound and playing. Lots of musical links and this years gigs can be found at www.russellalgar.co.ukWhat a great competition! Cheers, Greg

Hi, Greg. welcome to the forum - and the competition I listened to some of your clips (from the website)and am really impressed with the sound you two make... "The Two Magicians" I first heard played by Rosie Doonan and Ben Murray on their one and only album before they split: 'Mill Lane' under the title "The Lusty Smith" Are there full length versions of any of your tunes available? I see in the montage on your website you currently have a Taylor... what's it like to play? What other guitars/instruments do you have?

Hello again Greg - I've just really enjoyed listening to your soundclips and watching your videos. Not only great music well played, but some good interaction with the punters too! Keith

Well, I liked the soundclips enough to take a punt on the album so, if nothing else, you've got a CD sale I'm really looking forward to listening to the full tracks - yet another foray into the (previously) uncharted waters of some traditional songs...

Greg,
Well that's a pretty impressive set of videos and sounclips on your website and a great set of gigs that you and Ciaran have lined up. As I said in the Competition post you are very welcome to come visit me and play "Samhradh" if you are near High Wycombe on your travels.

I am indeed playing a Taylor 114 e which is a belting strumming guitar, in my opinion. I also think the built in Taylor pick up system is great! As well as that I play, a Fydle Octavius Bouzouki and a Wheatstone 48 key wood ended english concertina. G

Hi Greg - thanks v much for prompt despatch of CD which arrived earlier this week. At last I've had a quiet evening to listen to it. Very enjoyable it is too - some lovely playing form you both, and excellent vocals. I especially enjoyed the original material (hope there'll be more of this forthcoming) and the fiddle/guitar tunes. All the best with your CD - it should win you a lot of friends! Keith
