davewhite. This is a proper stupid question - but you must be used to those from me by now. I always wondered... It seems that all stringed instruments have the grain running from neck to heel (i.e. vertically) rather than from side to side. Is that for structural or aesthetic reasons? Not a stupid question at all Leo. Structural - wood is much stiffer along the grain than cross grain.

davewhite, can it be described as a mandolinetto? Or is the body too big for that? Leo

Well your preference is what counts, obviously. It's your design, you can call it whatever suits It's just that I have what, for years, I called a mandolin until someone told me that, because of its shape, it should be described as a mandolinetto and, when I was looking for images on t'interweb, all mandolinettos seem to be guitar-shaped. And I came across this: mandolinettoHowe-Ormes used to make 'em, ya know

I think that you’ve got the proportions spot-on, Dave. Without a frame of reference, it could an 8 string baritone guitar. Cheers Gary

Closing the box: davewhite, I notice that you're using a soundboard transducer- what adhesive do you recommend? I'm going to put one in my archtop and I'm still mulling over what to use to stick it in place. I've been playing with Gorilla Gel CA and I'm not too impressed! Cheers Gary
