I've made a few guitars, the last thirty years. A few stand out. But this one was my favourite. It was made for Tom. He wanted a Dreadnaught. But he wasn't sure what he wanted exactly. So he left it all to me. The woods, the decoration, the soundboard arching. I've heard him play a lot over the years, and I figured the SS soundboard would suit him well and be different from his HS-O. I also figured as Tom is a cool feller, not to make it look like every other silly bespoke guitar out there. Is it me or do they all look the same these days? As ever, I kept everything simple looking. So, I gave it a torrefied sitka spruce top, and laminated Indian rosewood and maple to foam. Yes. Foam. You know what I'm like for experimenting, Any way. It was outstanding. More than outstanding. Ian and Tom have played a lot of my guitars. I'm not sure if they get blase about them from time to time, but this one left both of them speechless. Mind, when they did speak, what they said couldn't easily be repeated in polite company. In hindsight, it would have been a good idea to let Tom take the guitar home, but he hadn't paid for it yet, so I let him borrow another and I took this one back to the workshop. A few days later the guitar was stolen along with all the rest. Here it is. Put the headphones in, pour yourself a glass of something nice and have a listen. That sounds fantastic, Nigel. A really full and balanced sound. I wish all sorts of bad things on those who stole it from you and Tom. Hindsight is, as they say, 20/20. I take issue with your thought that all bespoke guitars @look the same these days', however. Yes, they're all guitar-shaped - but then that's because they're guitars so there's limited room for manoeuvre But it's the little details that make them different - woods, decoration, headstock shape. Were I to show your video to some of my non-musical friends, they'd immediately identify the instrument as a guitar - just as well, really

Yes, I'm afraid I'm a bit cynical about the way the guitar business seems to have been swallowed by the fashion industry. I'm a bit stuck in the past when the most important thing was how a guitar sounded. But I'm afraid those days are long gone. Luckily, most folk who get in touch with me feel the same. We find each other!
As for the thief - someone was recently charged - and will appear in court in December. But no more instruments have been recovered - an 8 string guitar bouzouki was found in Jarrow Cash Converters a couple of months back. But that was it. No more have been found.
I don't wish the thief any ill. Obviously, if found guilty they must serve whatever punishment is given to them under the law. Likewise, I shall (if possible) pursue them through the law to recover what I can from them. I'd like every penny back. But I also hope they learn to understand the difficulties they cause for people through their selfish actions.
That's probably the only way they'll ever be able to stop themselves. When they clearly see the results of their actions.

Great playing.
What is the idea of the foam, Nigel?

Great playing. What is the idea of the foam, Nigel? Just another way to add mass and stiffness. Doesn't sound like a foam guitar, does it? Nige lhttp://www.nkforsterguitars.com/blog/the-best-sounding-acoustic-guitar-ive-ever-made/

Sounds beautiful Nigel, but a very sad story. I hope you have a great experience in Australia, it's a wonderful country and quite close to New Zealand which is even nicer.

Only just caught up with this, Nigel. What a lovely guitar! It sounds fantastic - which must make the overall situation so much more frustrating. I think you are being a lot more philosophical and forgiving than I would be in your shoes. Keep well. The U.K.'s loss is Australia's gain!

It did sound fantastic - though I personally prefer the best DADGAD guitar if all time ;-)
