So who's going to join me?
I know its not a great step forward for mankind but I've asked for a harmonica for xmas and will try to learn to play it 'properly' (whatever that is). If I succeed I'll do a Plucky Duck post later in the year. Why do I want to do it? Just because I always wanted to 50 years ago and never did! How will I learn it? Hopefully with some youtube stuff and any guidance from other forumites!
Is anyone else going to branch out? If so in what direction; why; and how do you propose to learn it?
(Just playing a 'different' guitar doesn't count!!! )

Good idea John I got an accordion last year that I haven't been near yet, so I propose to learn something on that in 2014 and then punish you all let you listen to what I come up with

I was rooting around my dad's loft yesterday and I found an old but serviceable bagpipes chanter. Got me thinking, I'd love to play bagpipes!

For me it's going to be clawhammer banjo. I've borrowed a really nice open back banjo from my good friend Martin Simpson. It's a hand built banjer by the late great Barry Murphy. I've placed an order with Jason and Pharis Romero for a Romero banjo, but that is way down the line and I hope to somewhat more proficient a player by the time it comes along.
It's great fun to start completely from scratch but also a little frustrating at times too.
Cheers,
Ian

Ian, Funny you should mention the B word, my crystal ball mysteriously is showing me one of these too If you ask Rodders nicely he'll knock up a hand made banjo for you and it would probably involve the use of a clawhammer too

Keith Will that be using Terz tuning then Good question to arse ask, Dave, but from experience I think the instrument in question is probably capable of quite a wide pitch range without having to change the fundamental frequencies....
