Congrats Rich on your lovely new purchase and Leos spot on , if your happy with it and like the sound and playability then that's all that matters after all we don't spend our hard earned cash on guitars , just to please others . I really like the look of it too and your Tanglewoods a nice looking instrument as well , very similar to my Sigma . Good luck with your new geetar . Thanks sigmadel, i tried the FA250GAC while i was in the shop amoungst others and it was a truly lovely guitar, sounded great and looked great too, i just loved the satin finish and the overall feel of it, for me it was a toss up between the AB3 and the FA250 but for me the AB3 just pipped the goal post. Im looking forward to when mine starts opening up.

I couldn't see myself paying that for an all laminate guitar. I know that an all laminate guitar is not for everyone but it sounds great and thats what i bought it for, i dont think that just because a guitar is laminated it makes it inferior in anyway, we are all chasing a sound not a piece of wood, thats what i think anyway. sorry, I wasn't meaning to offend anyone. I appreciate that some of the laminates are very good - damn, I played an all lam for 15 years! I was speaking for myself and I meant that with the offerings from Faith and Recording King in that price range it doesn't seem like great value.

Thats ok, im not offended, i have tried a lot of all solid guitars at a much higher price range when i first started looking for a new one and to be honest i think for me the extra £500 - £1000 was not justified on something that i thought was not that much better sounding than the guitars i already have, granted time will tell the difference between solid and lam but for now the AB3 and my tanglewood (solid top/lam b&s) sounded a lot better, im sure as i become a better player/musician (only been playing 2 and a half years) i will perhaps start looking at higher end guitars and pass these onto my children, one likes to play guitar while one of the others prefers to play the harmonica, i catch them both noodling on my guitars on the sofa often, thats ok with me so long as they are sensible with them.

...that's great that your kids are interested in playing, and that you encourage them too! Keith

well ive had my new freshman AB3 autumn for 2 weeks now and it is settling down nicely, it plays better and sounds better than it did the day i bought it and its only going to get better, when its plugged in it is absolutely unreal, everything about its sound is perfect, even 1 of my guitar tutors prefers it over his martin and the other just couldn't put it down, overall i am very happy with it, the only thing i am going to have done to it is have a nice pick guard put on it to stop those tiny little scratch marks that a pick leaves and maybe change the bridge pins for something a bit bling bling, bone with abalone dots probably, but that will come later.

Ritch my Freshman didn't have a scratchplate either although I don't really hit the body much when strumming . I picked up one from eBay for about £4 and they had pretty much any colour you could imagine I had to shape it slightly round the sound hole with a knife first but easy to do , then just peel off the backing and stick down just make sure you position it correctly as I wouldn't fancy pulling it back off again . It really finishes it off and gives that added protection .

I couldn't see myself paying that for an all laminate guitar. Hello I stumbled upon this site while looking into this particular guitar (AB3 Autumn) I'm thinking of buying one of these but this comment has put me off. That said I can't find anything on any of the music shop websites, or on Freshmans site that states it's a laminate. It's described on Gear4Music as "The Apollo Boutique series comprises four stunning models, each featuring solid exotic woods, a Fishman EQ system and a hard case, all for a great price." The only reference to it being a laminate is on this site so could you please point me where this info came from. - It's hard to get tone across i text only, I'm not trying to be snippy or start ansrgument I'm really just looking for info before I got handing over hard earned money. Thanks

Hello eljay, and welcome to the Forum - we're glad you found us. I doubt you'll get a response from the23rdman as he hasn't logged in for over a year now. It might be worth noting that the comment to which you refer was made almost 2 years ago, during which time specifications may well have changed. From this review, which predates the comment - www.freshmanguitars.net/pdfs/reviews/AB3Autumn-AB3Summer-Acoustic.pdfit would seem that at the time of review (2013)the top was specified as "solid koa" and the back/sides "koa", ie laminated . Sorry I can't be of more help. Maybe someone else here can...? Keith

Thanks for the link Ocarolan. I've asked Freshman for confirmation but it looks like it's back to the drawing board for me. Pity, I had my heart set on one.
