Difficult to have too much of Fred. Very true. I love the story of how, when he was first discovered by the guys from Arhoolie Records, they had to wait until he'd finished ploughing his field before he would sit down on the porch and play for them. Then, of course, the Stones covered You Gotta Move on Sticky Fingers and life got much better for him. The album Mama Says I'm Crazy with Fred & Johnny Woods is well worth a listen. The Lord only knows what they'd been drinking - the album is a bit like having your ears syringed while sucking a lemon - but in a good way

And here's another wonderful slide player, Colin Linden from the rather strangely named Blackie & the Rodeo Kings.

Just checked out the album `Mama says I`m crazy`, hell of a battle going on there, so after you sir at that session!! Enjoyed the Colin Linden video as well. Is that an old Dobro he is playing? Nothing on the head stock for a Reso amateur like me to identify it. Cheers Steve.

According to this interview it's a Regal made 1940's Dobro www.vintageguitar.com/16323/colin-linden/More about him here and how he met Howlin Wolf when he was 11!

Then there's this guy as well. A few years back I was involved in putting a small festival together and was trying to get him to perform but he couldn't get enough gigs to make it worthwhile crossing the Atlantic unfortunately. Now he's much more famous becasue one of his tunes was used in a Tarantino movie. So absoulutely no chance of getting him now........

Well it`s not every week that you discover three new guitarists. Great players and Rick Payne has an excellent website. Thanks for posting these videos Martin. Cheers Steve.

Thanks for posting. I too don't know much about Smoky Babe. I think he was one of those rediscovered in the 60s by Arhoolie. And here's another one who was not really known until Arhoolie found him. His album "Alabama Slide Guitar" is well worth a listen.

Yes sad news, I saw this on the Michael Messer forum. What a wonderful legacy he has left us, wish I had the money to splash on one.
