It's been reported in the last few minutes that John Renbourn has been found dead after failing to arrive for a gig. He was 70. Too young.

I pretty much learned to play fingerstyle through watching John's instructional videos. An absolute hero of mine, and I'm sure many others on here. Thanks for everything John. RIP.

WHAAAAAAT!
Such a shame. Huge influence on modern guitar playing and a really nice chap.
Condolences to his family.

I was lucky enough to spend last weekend with him and have penned a little tribute on my blog. The server is down at the moment but as soon as it is published I shall share it.
I found him to be a lovely man with a generous and warm spirit. Am so pleased I got to meet him.

I've just this last week been discovering and enjoying an album including some songs with John Renbourn and Bert Jansch together from 1966.
Very sad news indeed and way too soon.

Hey, Guitar Friends--This is Jack from the good, old USA. As far as I am concerned John Renbourn was the finest guitarist of his generation, period. He had such a wide-ranging imagination, blues, folk, traditional, modern--he could do it all, with great taste. Just an incredibly fluid, expansive, compelling guitarist. I think the work he did in resurrecting older, traditional folk tunes of the British Isles will stand the test of time. I hope somebody somewhere has enough sense to reissue all his work now, earlier and later. I'd buy it in a second; I know a lot of other guitarists would, too. A great loss for the world of music and guitar music especially.
