What sort of seats do people use for playing their guitar?
I have a 2 foot high "Gibson" bar stool style with a vinyl cover
The foam is getting a bit tired so looking to change, maybe to something with a back on it.
The height seems to be OK for me and I like the idea that it swivels a bit

I've got one of those bar stools too (Fender), so atm I'm using that. Before I got it, just an office type chair would do.

I was given this last year, and it's fantastic. Doesn't swivel but is very comfy and very adjustable, you can also get a back rest: K&M Stool

I usually prefer to stand when playing, and if possible wander about a bit - maybe a wandering minstrel in my ancestry somewhere. Otherwise just whatever chair is handy. Or couch if it's a small enough guitar.

Like vikingblues I usually stand to play, though I'm more of a wandering wastrel. I'm playing at a session this friday where there is a problem for seated players--- most of the chairs have arms.

I like to think I can turn my hand to most DIY jobs, including bits of skilled carpentry. I've upcycled a £2 dining chair and carefully adapted it for guitar playing by painstakingly sawing a bit off the legs. I've learned how to do a straight cut - simply keep your saw straight. And there it is! A flat-seated chair, low enough to enable one's thighs to be parallel when feet touching floor.
Having said that, I usually just sit on the edge of the settee.

I have a Soundseat that I got as a gift, but I really don't like it. In fact I keep it at work as an office chair. My favourite playing seat in a Hercules piano stool. They're not cheap, but it's the most comfortable thing I've played on. I've even loaded it up into the car for gigs. www.amazon.co.uk/HERCULES-STANDS-KB200B-Hercules-Stand/dp/B0035FZMXMIt's also dead handy for sitting my laptop on when I'm on the sofa!

I rescued my chair from a skip. Took a week to dry out after washing and disinfecting. No arms, no squeaks, no noises. Great. Attachments:
