I didnt find it cringy at all. Far and above the usual xfactor/britains got talent fodder. There was one guy that was cringeworthy tho-the older guy doing the Hendrix/SRV thing. A bit hard to watch!
But those classical players. Wow

This I really enjoyed watching - all of it showed great talent from everyone. I love the acoustic stuff and the lad that did the travis picking I thought was excellent - I have the Mark Hanson Travis Picking beginner book that I really need to get into sometime soon
Reminds me how a measly 30 mins a day, and that's not everyday, practising is clearly not enough - ok I aint gonna get to virtuoso standard but I really need to practice more like an hour a day EVERYDAY!!
Look forward to show 2

Thanks for the links. Is it only me who fast forwards the rock bits? At the risk of coming over as a grumpy old git it all sounds the same to me. I did enjoy the classical and acoustic segments but my guitar must be broken or something because it doesn't sound like theirs. I will be interested to see where they go with this.

I'm not really into the shredders as it aint really my thing, having said that they are all immensely talented for their genre, I mean the speed of their damn fingering is impressive to say the least........no no you naughty boys didn't mean it like that
My two favourites is the acoustic player that was on first on episode 2 and the lad that was travis picking - as for a winner, I think it will be either a jazz or classical player as these genre's are not as popular so its a great chance via a show to give them more of a chance, who knows?
Everyone of that show whatever genre are mighty fine players who deserves immense credit for their talents through their dedication, that I can only smile and applaud

I watched both of them last night. I just ignore the judges so I don't cringe. There was incredible depth of talent within the Irish contingent. I'm loving the classical players because I can't do that. Lots of feeling in your piece, Jak. Really enjoyed it.

haha. thank you. I agree about the Irish contingent. I was expecting London to be the most impressive, but no I think Ireland had some amazing players

I thought this week's episode was the best yet, mostly because of Lee Ritenour as mentor. I wish I could play anything that sounded as good as his warm-up exercises!
It was fascinating to hear his feedback to each of the players. I could sort of tell whether a performance was working or not, but he could dissect exactly what was going wrong and how to put it right. I've enjoyed all the episodes so far, but this was the first one where I felt like I was learning something as well.
It was also interesting to hear Ritenour playing with the contestants. All of them are good players, but it really showed up how big the gap is between talented hopeful and top-class professional.

I can only agree: I thought that the standard from Ireland was very high, followed by Wales. London was quite disappointing.
