Well done leoroberts, you are a model COG. Standards must indeed be maintained. Brian

Just watched episode 3!
I don’t know why the programme organisers didn’t select more jazz guitarists to go for auditions in the first place. Seeing as the judges had to select 4 guitarists for each category (jazz/blues, rock, acoustic, classical/flamenco) – it seems like they didn’t have that many jazz/blues guitarists to choose from. And they had to put that guy with the nylon strings/more classical style through as a jazz guitarist – which seemed a bit bizarre to me. And also a shame as they could have showcased an amazing selection of jazz guitarists – there are plenty of them out there! I feel like they didn’t really think through the jazz/blues category very well, and that it’s been rather neglected overall in the show (though maybe I should wait and see how the other categories pan out before I commit to that!) Definitely the right jazz guitarist got through though at least (in my opinion).

What does seem odd is how they list the categories. Acoustic isnt a genre or style-you can play rock or jazz on any guitar, and classical guitars are acoustic!

Episode 5 - Classical.
My favourite episode so far - largely due to seeing the wonderfully encouraging and insightful mentor Milos interracting with the entrants in such a helpfully critical way.

I very much enjoyed the classical episode and agree Milos was an engaging mentor. Now I'm going to dust off my ancient classic guitar and reiterate just how good those contestants are.

Just watched some of this for the first time. The classical one was interesting. I've just caught another one with Ralph Mctell chatting,
What happened to our James?

I must say, as it's gone on I've found this programme quite entertaining, and certainly better than the usual "talent" show nonsense that infects the main channels. On the other hand, if the presenter doesn't stop describing the mentors and/or venues as "iconic" I may revise my opinion...

In today's reality world where everyone can indeed become famous for five minutes, anbbody who has a longer life span than this is obviously 'iconic'.

I'm really not sure about Tony Iommi as this week's mentor. He seems a nice enough guy, but he didn't really offer much feedback. He seemed to be there just to give the episode a big name rather than because he had much to offer as a teacher.

Right! Ok! Firstly I have to say that I have nothing against electric guitar playing. Indeed, recently I've been spending as much time on my old electric weapon as on acoustic. I must also own up to not being a fan of heavy metal, a style that I find lacking in emotion and feel. I have just watched a recording of the the most recent programme and was virtually unmoved by any of the performances. The Irish lad's playing was definitely better than the hair tossing wee man who was given the nod and the big tall lad who performed last was, in my opinion, a better player than all of them. I have to agree with Mandovark that Tony Iommi's contribution was suspect at best. That was an hour of my life that I'll never get back. My own fault, I know. I really must apply for C.O.G. Status. Utter nonsense masquerading as music. I'm off to open the Highland Park.

Looks like I'll be spared the waste of time watching Episode 6 with Tony Iommi as the Youtube vids of it have been blocked, so I haven't embedded it here this time.
