I just ordered an Acus One-8 from dv247.com for £544, which is £80 cheaper than Thomann! A good price although these amps are all getting very competitive at the moment. I have always had good service from DV247. The others I use a lot are Gear4Music. There's no stopping you now :-) (Think of all those lovely cables and leads you will need. Guaranteed to drive partners crazy ...)

The Acus has arrived. First impression is what a lovely looking thing it is and the sound is phenomenal. I'll post more when I've had chance to put it through its paces with my two main guitars (the Lowden will be having a K&K pick-up fitted shortly) and the Breedlove is out on loan.

(the Lowden will be having a K&K pick-up fitted shortly) I just scared myself rigid reading the K&K instructions for fitting to a guitar with a pinless bridge

It's not too difficult at all Andy - K&K instructions make a right meal of pinned bridge installations too. I've done a couple of pinless bridge installs with no problem. And several dozen that went very badly wrong... I connect the three transducers at the correct spacing outside the guitar with a cardboard strip and Blutack so I can stick all three at once. (I do this for pinned bridges too.) A small hole in the base of the saddle slots at the outer end (easily drilled though may already be there) allows a short piece of wire (paper clip or ball end plus inch of guitar string)to poke inside guitar so the location of the saddles extremities can be felt when inserting/glueing the cardboard strip/transducers. I'm sure it'll work out fine when yours gets done! Keith

Thanks for that Keith. I appreciate the fact that you have attempted to reassure me, but having read the words "drilled" and "guitar" in the same sentence I had to go and lie down.
I guess that this is a minor procedure for you, having had a career as a dentist, but I'd rather attempt surgery ON MY OWN BRAIN that go near my guitar with a drill or superglue (I'm feeling faint again....). "Ham-fisted" will probably be etched on my tombstone.
At the risk of receiving a lecture about grandmothers and eggs, I will mention your methodology to the guitar doctor. He assures me he's done this before!

I've never bothered fitting a K&K myself. Alan at KGB Music in Birkenhead has fitted all of my K&K pickups. He knows what he's doing, uses his own template, and doesn't charge a fortune. No brainer for me

Right! Acus One-8 - obtained. Orchid pre-amp - obtained. Issue: the pre-amp needs to be phantom-powered therefore has to be plugged into one of the XLR inputs on the amp, therefore I'm unable to put two mics in. I'm sure (I hope) there will be a simple solution - can someone please enlighten me? If there isn't, Keith ocarolan didn't you say recently that you would be happy to purchase another Orchid? I haven't had the K&K pick-up fitted to my Lowden yet but I presume it's going to need pre-amp boost. The Breedlove (with L.R. Baggs Element Active VTC) sounds bloody magnificent through the Acus Thanks!!

Andy P - Yup - if you want to keep the XLR inputs free you need one of these - www.amazon.co.uk/Behringer-PS400-Micropower-Phantom-Supply/dp/B000FG795I-there are cheaper ones, but this came up first on Googling! I use something similar when necessary. You won't need a separate preamp for the K&K - it'll be fine straight into a jack input on the Acus, but for practicality (ease and flexibility of control) it's v handy to use one eg an Orchid on yer mic stand. Many thanks Keith ocarolan. I'm no doubt being dense here, but as that unit has XLR in and out, I don't understand how it would get round the issue raised.

Andy P - No, not dense Andy - my fault - I should have added that as you want to output to a jack channel on the Acus you'll need the relevant lead/converter socket to come out of the phantom power supply thingy. You may find you run into level problems doing that but you'll not know until you try. Bit of a clumsy option really. Simpler by far to go with putting everything, instruments and mics, into your little mixer and then out from that to the Acus I'd have thought. Then you can have your amp away from you and keep the mixer + or - preamp by your fingertips. (Which brings us full circle to my post on page one of this thread I think!) Keith
