Personally, I use the Slick Pick, but I'm with Leo re Fred Kelly, they're still the only thumbpicks I've ever got on with. I've always got them directly from Fred Kelly via website. Bags of, from memory, 24 still worked out cheaper even with p&p than sourcing in UK...and we wont talk about Ireland.

Don't know if this is any use but I've sometimes found new thumbpicks too tight for real comfort. After a period of simply grasping the blade and bending the hook away I tried an experiment which seemed to produce a more stable result. Taking a suitable pair of pliers I squeezed the very top of the hook. The right amount of pressure was a matter of feel but I managed to open out the hook without over straining the bend. Eventually, I found that I adjusted to the pressure of a new pick knowing that it would adjust itself over time, a bit like strings playing in.

Hello all,
I use this for my Planet waves picks, but it will work for any plastic pick.
Drop it in a cup of hot water, leave to warm up, say a minute or so,then fit it on yer thumb, and cool it down with cold water, whilst still on thumb.....
(Sorry I can't remember who told me this way)
Good luck regards etc Peter

Fred Kelly speed picks for me as well. Can't decide between medium (orange) and large (white). On orange at the moment!

Hi Dicky - I have always got on well with metal thumb picks , I don't like the pick to stick out too far , just of the side of my thumb and I then file the metal down to nice snug fit and also sometimes find I am still wearing it on the drive home form a club as it is so unobtrusive, just a thought and maybe worth a try
Cheers - Tony

I've tried loads of different picks and found most of them to sound really 'clicky' on steel strings and I think most them were probably plastic. I quite like the Fred Kelly Speed Picks, but much prefer the heavy Fred Kelly Slick Picks, which I find have a much more natural sound and they last for ages. I usually buy mine from Eagle Music.
