Then again it might all be a load of bollocks. Robbie Martin 's shot his off so he's ok... I think I prefer to be bamboozled with posts about pedals/feedback/inputs/outputs and what have you than mathematics and tuning. Not that I bother about either, as you'll have noticed.

Well, gosherooni! I do realise that the difference of 2 Hz is perceptible (just), but this sounds just like the discussions about tonewoods to me (or "technical" discussions in other activities - photography, cycling, sewing - they all have their anoraks). It's all perception. I don't believe there can be any empirical evidence that one is better than the other. But the potential for smugness and disdain from the cognoscenti towards the rest can be awfully distressing and possibly damaging. I'm talking here about the discussion in Keith's link, not our discussion on this thread, which, as ever, is good natured and pleasant. I am sorry I cast aspersions on whether Andy's original post included an unintentional error. I now see that I was wrong.

Reading further down this article (there's a lot of it!) I learn that in 1989 the European Common Market selected A435 as the standard for all Europe. it seems we've been out of tune with the rest of Europe all along. Why did this never get mentioned in the Brexit talks? I think the 'European common market setting A435 as the standard' is un canard, as we say. A few people quote it on the web, but I can find no reference to any EU ruling on this, and it's completely outside of their responsibilities anyway. A440 is still the international standard, and has been adopted by the ISO

I am sorry I cast aspersions on whether Andy's original post included an unintentional error. I now see that I was wrong. I think it was I who cast the initial dispersions on Andy’s post, for which I am profusely sorry! Interesting geeky fact about the number 442- it’s prime factors are 2, 13 and 17. Nothing nice about those prime factors at all. I feel that American orchestras only came up with that tuning so as they can be as awkward as possible. Did you know that when an American orchestra comes to the Proms to pe form a piano concerto they have the retune the entire piano 😱 The arrogance of it!

If Trump had his way they'd only retune the white keys... Or the black keys. Sorry, I don't know where I'm going with this attempt at satirical humour.

If Trump had his way they'd only retune the white keys... haha!🤣 They probably wouldn’t have any black keys at all- every would have to be played in C (or of course the 6 other modes derived from C).

Question is, if you tune in to Earth's vibation, would good ol' Mother Earth approve? And how would you know about it? Less earthquakes? More rain ?

If they colonise Mars, would they need to tune A to a different frequency?
You can almost hear the conversation:
"Flash, I'm really not enjoying these Def Leppard tracks as much as I used to."
"Well, Dale, that's because you didn't use the Acme Resonance Converter to tune A=476."
"Emperor Ming stole my Acme Resonance Converter"
"Here, I have the latest iPhone 1027 where I've downloaded the app"
"Oh, thank you, Flash, you've saved the Tuniverse."
