Needing another guitar like a hole in the head, I made the mistake of reading an email from The North American Guitar in London headed “Pay Day Week Specials.” There I found a year old Froggy Bottom SJ at a price that can only be described as a steal. I have to admit that I’ve only ever played one Froggy that moved me, a model H13 a decade ago. Numerous others since have been nice but not enough to be irrestible. Temptation led me to take a chance on this one and a deal was done. It arrived this yesterday (Tuesday 30). Opened case, it smells new, no fretwear, absolutely dead mint, it might just as well have been described as new. And the sound? Omigod! This guitar ain’t going anywhere. It’s top is Adirondack so one wonders how it will sound in a few years time if it sounds so wonderful now. It’s here: thenorthamericanguitar.com/products/froggy-bottom-sj-deluxe-acoustic-guitar-mahogany-adirondack-spruce-pre-owned

Stunning guitar Chris - congratulations on a top notch addition to a premium fleet!
Re the hole in the head point - you couldn't possibly have stopped at 27 - the feng sui of that number is just so wrong and besides you should never forget the massive public service you are doing for the rest of us....
Enjoy your beautiful FB!

Hmm, I feel a trip to Rochdale coming on! One of the very best guitars I ever remember playing was a Froggy Bottom M Deluxe, at the first RMMGA meeting I went to. You were there Chris - with an Olson if I recall correctly...

I once stumbled across the Froggy Bottom workshop whilst combining a leaf peeping ,covered bridge spotting and pancake sampling trip. It was all locked up but I spent ages squinting through cobweb and sawdust encrusted windows. I'd never heard of Froggy before and it was some time till I actually laid hands on one. I always thought I'd end up with one with a neat scrimshaw heel cap hasn't happened yet!.

I know about the Froggy but I notice there is a Brook that's appeared on your list Chris. Is there something you're not telling us Phil

Haha Good spot Phil... Come on fess up Chris In fact I'd be really interested in a full tour of the family as I know very little about Bown/Baranik/Kinsheff/Wren guitars!! Ralph is well known here, based in York. Builds just about anything, Clive Carroll, Graham Coxon, Martin Simpson, Peter Rowan and others play his guitars. The late John Renbourn had several. Ian Brown and others on here play Ralph's guitars. Nobody better in my opinion. No website, I seem to be a conduit these days. Jamie Kinscherff is based south of Austin Texas, used to work for Taylor in the early days. Builds 3 models, Troubadour (L00) Concert (OM wish) and High Noon (SJ wish). Great guitars. I attend a gathering every year in Wimberley Texas where the majority of the attendees own Kinscherff guitars. Just got back this week from this year's gathering. Wonderful guitars. www.kinscherff.comDavid Wren is from the Jean Larrivee school, along with Linda Manzer and many others. Builds several models all beautiful and the finish is french polish. Main claim to fame is that he built guitars for Joan Baez. That's what led me to him. I saw her at New York Town Hall in 2003 and asked the guitar tech who had built her wonderful sounding guitar, which was David. He had stopped building several years earlier but started again in 2011. I got the first Wren that arrived at TAMCO and another used a couple of years later. David is also a great photographer and includes a book of construction photographs with every guitar. Have a look at his website. Great guitars. www.wrenguitarworks.comMike Baranik is another revered American builder. The guitar I have is for sale, it's got Brazilian back and sides. Lovely little guitar but the neck is just too narrow for me. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Baranik-PX-Acoustic-Guitar-Superb-instrument-Mint/292607604769www.baranikguitars.comYou are aware of Kathy Wingert guitars? Ark New Era?
