My initial thought is that fingerpicking sounds lovely on my S12 Lowden (in spite of me most of the time) but chords don't sound right (or as good as i'd like). On another thread recently someone said J45 Gibsons really suit chord work. I've never played one so can't comment. Chords fit certain styles whereas fingerpicking fits others. John The S12 sounds good with open tuning chords. It is a fingerpicking guitar for the most part as are most of the Lowden guitars IMO. That's a good point Shaun. I've still to experiment fully with it's capabilities other than drop D (and double drop D from memory). John

These are good Julian and they do fit standard jacks as you say. The hole in the leather is fairly large with the nylon retainer gap fairly large to cope with the size of the jack. But there's also a Strapkeeper 2 which has a smaller hole in the leather with a corresponding smaller gap in the retainer.
On my guitars the larger one fits the end jack pin but the smaller one fits the strap pins at the heel if you wanted one for that purpose.

Very good post. It does seem very difficult to find like minded people of the type you describe. Pub covers band - NO, Trans Sessions - YES. The trouble is, in my situation, my abilities would barely cover a covers band never mind Trans Sessions John

All I know is I just can't believe it when I see him play.
I was privileged to see him live in Swansea about ten years ago. Amazing to say there were only perhaps 50 people there. The venue was a small one but still had space for around 300. And I was seated only about 5 metres away from him. Just fantastic.
Lavaman quoted the 'just because you can doesn't mean you should' saying. But why not ? At the end you could see that he'd just thoroughly enjoyed himself. Nothing wrong with that. I just love it all, fast and slow.

Well that was a bit different from the 'Three Lions' vid Andy posted earlier. Ever so slightly better.

Actually you did mention that Francis now I come to think of it. So it's actually better than new really. I don't have to do anything. Just play it. The best deal John

I took my parlour to Francis a few weeks ago for a little job to be done. While there he said do you fancy buying a telecaster. He said he was having problems adapting to the neck - nut width and neck shape. I said i'd think about it and decide before picking up the parlour. Well, I thought about it. And bought it . I mentioned on some other thread a while ago that i'd thought about selling my strat (American Standard) that I hardly play, buying a far east tele and keeping the balance of the money for my next foray into GAS. At the time I asked my brother if he wanted to sell me his tele only for him to say he'd sold it just a short while before. So when Francis offered his one it seemed like fate. No need for me to post any pics because you can just check out the one Francis posted. As you'd imagine it's immaculate given it's only 4 months old. You mentioned Keith about changing the strings to 10's (not enough tension). I will change them fairly soon but at the moment i'm in the process of trying to get my granddaughter interested in playing and she'll find these easier for her little fingers to press down. Anyway, now i'm stuck with four acoustics and two electrics. Terrible life isn't it John

Believe it or not the wood colour combination is even more striking in real life.

Well, when I say it plays rather well the 'playing' consisted of holding it on my lap and fingerpicking a few D chords. So I wouldn't worry Keith, it's still a virgin . John

FYI Keith, I dropped off my parlour today for some Francis TLC and he brought yours out for me to see. It's just lovely. The mix of wood colours makes for a lovely effect. And it sounds and plays rather well as well. You'll be very happy. John

'When I Was a Boy' - you get the feeling he's actually living what he's singing. You can't get better than that.
