Congrats,Paul. That’s some chord contortion in the first photo. Lovely looking guitar, Francis. So, how about some sound clips… It’s an F Maj7, but you dont play the Eb on the 4th string. I call it my F for photograph chord. Never been known to play it. Soundclips are a bit tricky at the mo. I’ll try, Vinny.

Name those chords (Paul can't!) True, that.

I can’t begin to tell you how wonderful this guitar is. It’s been a year or two since I played a 12 string. It took me a few minutes to get back in the swing of things, hence the grim guitar face. But I was in love from the moment I opened the case. It’s everything I wanted and more. Have to go a bit gently with it, though, because it’s loud when you put it under strain. Photos, no matter how well taken, don’t do it justice. It’s just magnificent.

I was a proper acupuncture sceptic. But after I broke my knee and was in constant pain that over the counter medicines did nothing to relieve it was recommended by my doctor. It works, by golly. How it works I cannot fathom, but it really does. I've lost the message of this thread a little. Does this mean if I stick some pins in my guitars I will be a better player? P.S. As a beneficiary of one of your wonderful instruments Francis I hope you find a solution to be able to continue and allow others to have a share in my enjoyment of your amazing skills. John If you stick pins in your guitar, John, the strings will be held more securely. Happy to help.

Larry, are you sure it doesn't need a set up? Barre chords are tricky to learn to play cleanly, but a poorly set up guitar makes it all but impossible.
I was given a Fender Dreadnought in 1982 which I hated, and which sat languishing in my house for decades. In about 2010, I decided I needed a guitar I could take out to picnics and stuff, but it was still beastly to play. I was having work done on another guitar by a tech, so I took it to him to look at. He did a set up on it, cost me about £80, from memory. The main thing he did was recut the nut. Absolute transformation. Plays brilliantly. Sounds the same as before.
It may be worth having somebody take a look at it. You can usually get them to look at it for free, and give you a fixed quote for the work before you commit yourself.

Oh, yes, and this:

And then, there's this:
IMHO, the harmonies are EVERYTHING here - that and the guitar playing, piano playing, structure, variety etc etc.

I agree with you delb0y. Harmonies can make a recording or performance. Done badly they can do some real harm, though. I can’t hear them well enough to extemporise them either, and I’m too scared to embark on it on the fly. I saw this a few weeks ago, and I thought it good:

As perfect as I knew it would be, I am stunned by this beautiful instrument. Francis you are an artist. Thank you so much for building this. It has been a delightful process - I’ve never commissioned a guitar before. Francis has been absolutely brilliant all the way through.
For reasons that are all due to January and the deadline for tax returns I’ll not be able to pick it up til later this month. But I am almost salivating at the prospect.

Some people are sensitive aren’t they? I think this is a brilliant discussion too, Jonny.

It'd be quite something if someone asked how much you'd paid for a guitar and you were able to answer 4,675,000. OK, so you don't admit it's Yen. That translation is quite a bit of work though, isn't it? My favourite line is: "Mr. Terry Nakamoto, who was enrolled in Yamaha at that time, is a masterpiece that is also highly regarded as a model at the end of the Yamaha era" So not just a luthier, but a model as well as a masterpiece. davewhite could you say the same?

Why doesn't the 'Tree' come with a certificate? Jonny With that number of certificates you'd need to cut several more trees down to make the paper.
