Sometimes in life it is better not to ask a question to which you might get a wrong answer.

Brought it back from Germany on Tuesday......words fail me!
My Ziricote Ralph Bown OM went with me and stayed, I have a Brazilian OM of Ralph's which I got earlier this year. The new owner of the Bown has already been in touch with Ralph about getting another one!!
Two very happy campers!

I'm down to a mere 13 having recently sold my Olson SJ. I do have 2 on order though, from Ralph Bown and Kathy Wingert. Another Ralph Bown! Do you have to sell a few when the new ones arrive, just to create a bit of space on the wall? Don't have to but I probably will let several go fairly soon. Martin lovers might want to get in touch.

I buy small items from Stewmac, or anywhere else in the USA, singly to avoid duty. Recently bought two Shubb capos separately for this reason.

I was just today (by way of diversion tactics) reading an interview with Ralph McTell. He thinks he has about 35 guitars but is not quite sure. He thinks his J45 might just be the best J45 in the world, but he keeps having to buy new ones to make sure. And then he decides to keep them hanging around. He makes Chris Stern and Ian Brown look like piddling amateurs! I'm down to a mere 13 having recently sold my Olson SJ. I do have 2 on order though, from Ralph Bown and Kathy Wingert.

I called at Ralph's place this evening. He had just finished a Cocobolo short scale OM (Martin 000). I literally played the first notes on it. Omigod! I couldn't put it down. Sounded like a guitar equivalent of a Steinway piano from the get go. Wish I'd taken my camera, the back is stunning. Good job it's already sold.

You can add The Only Living Boy in New York and For Emily Whenever I May Find Her to the list and the original recording of Sound of Silence had a 12 string on it. Fakin' It as well. Paul Simon has used 12 string extensively all through the years. The live version of America on Live Rhymin' has him playing one. He has three just now, two D12-28s built for him and an Olson he bought used.
Pretty much everything Pete Seeger played on guitar was 12 string and he converted Judy Collins to it too.

I've used Ebay mostly for selling and occasionally AGF. I found my Olson SJ on Preloved.

I think it's true of a lot of instrumentalists. Amazing athleticism to watch but not for listening too at home or in the car. James Taylor, Jackson Browne and Paul Simon come to mind as great artists making guitars sound great as accompaniment and worthy of repeated listening. Joni Mitchell too, including her great playing of the mountain dulcimer which as actually very simple using a C C C tuning. It's the feel that makes it sound so great.

Welcome!
I would try a few guitars right up to your maximum cost price. As stated above Takemine make great plugged in guitars but in my experience too they sound thin when played purely acoustically. You can also save a lot of money by buying used. Check out the usual places, eBay, Preloved. Gumtree etc plus on here too.
Where are you located?
