Try buying a professional standard violin, £18,500 is cheap in that market.

Coming in very late on this thread, I loved the Chuck Lee when I played it at Halifax. I have just got a Mike Ramsey Tubaphone and to my ears it's the best sounding of the three banjos I have now.

Ralph Bown will commence work on my Brazilian 0-12 very soon. I've always loved the sound of Joan Baez' 1929 0-45. This will be my version, or rather Ralph's.

If you like James Taylor's guitar sound, his Olson's are cedar topped. All but one of my guitars has a spruce top.

Direct from Shubb. And, I have the 3 now. Very well made, minimal retuning ( can never say never) and I like that you can leave them up beyond the nut. One is on my new Wingert F, another on the 2013 Bown OM and the third on my Kinscherff Troubadour, I could be tempted to get more sometime. Not absolutely sessentail but very handy additions.

I use DADGAD, open G, open D, Open C and various other turnings including standard. Never had any tweaking to a guitar ever on account of retuning. Very minor tweaks on one or two occasions for a change of string gauge.

I agree with Keith. I have an AER Compact which is more than powerful enough for most small rooms. I've used it with a mixed as well successfully (thought mostly without). This tactic should work well it's the smaller Acus. Lightness means portability and I've learnt to value that! I have a Compact 60-3 and a more recently acquired Acus One-8 which was going very cheaply on eBay otherwise I would not have bothered. All I can say is that the Acus has become my go-to Amp of choice. I never thought anyone would move me from AER but it has, a less coloured and more natural sound to my ears and great looking too.

Mine is on it's way over. I'll post my thoughts after I've tried it.

If anybody is attending I'll be assisting Kathy Wingert. Please come over over and say hi. I know, tough life, but somebody has to do it!
