What a truly wonderful and generous offer Dave as well as being a really great idea. I really like the Florentine cutaway on your guitar. There was a time when I had an irrational dislike of cutaway acoustics, but this has now thankfully been consigned to history. I hope that your initiative leads to all the things that you mention in your opening post. This forum is a very good place to be indeed...
Cheers,
Ian

Ouch ! I hope they get their gear back too. But it's a salutary reminder NOT to leave stuff in your car unattended...
Cheers,
Ian

Martin is a good friend of mine, so I've got to play a few PRS acoustics. Naturally, Martin gets the "good" ones picked out by Mr Smith himself, so I've always been quite impressed by their quality and especially their playability. The Signature models are essentially Private Stock acoustics, for which superior materials are used. Although an endorser, Martin would not use an instrument that was not up to it. Personally, I've not been tempted by PRS as ultimately they are factory built instruments, albeit very well built and consistent. Interestingly, I commissioned a guitar from Steve Fisher in August last year, which arrived here just before Christmas. There was a build thread on the now defunct Acoustic Life Forum as well as on the AGF here. Steve Fischer was the man responsible for the design of the PRS acoustic line and personally hand built the original prototypes and is a great builder. My latest guitar is very good indeed, the build quality, fit and finish are totally flawless. And it sounds great too. I took it over to Trevor at TAMCO in January and he ordered up a guitar from Steve that very afternoon. It's expected to arrive in May sometime. Cheers, Ian Great to get your take on this Ian...I've been following the AGF thread with interest...hope you can share some sound clips of your Fischer guitar on here before long. I'll try and post something sometime. Although I'm rather lazy when it comes to recording, every time I pick a guitar up I just get lost in the playing of it and drift away... Cheers, Ian

Ian has one, or more, tungsten carbide slides as used by MS. Are those the ones I wonder Leo? I know nothing about slides and tone and stuff, so no idea what the cost/benefit ratio is. Sounds good when Ian uses his though! Keith These new slides came about as a result of a certain guitar enthusiast, known as Huckleberry on the AGF, coming over to my place last summer and using my TC slide. My two slides were made by John Lynch in California, who also made Martin's slides. Huckleberry decided to commission a couple of slides based upon the profile of his stainless steel MS signature slide as well as another profile favoured by Michael Messer. Huckleberry showed the slide to Martin who agreed to endorse them. I believe that Michael Messer was pretty blown away with the TC slide concept and will also be an endorser for the alternate profile model. So, much kudos to Huckleberry for showing such initiative. I agree that 250.00 quid is a lot for a guitar slide, but once you've used a TC slide there is no going back. Interestingly, they really seem to benefit when playing slide on a standard steel string, rather than a resonator, which inherently has more volume. If you're serious about your slide playing, then this is the way to go. I've seen Huckleberry's slides and can certainly attest to their quality. His MS version, weighing in at nearly 200 gr., is even a bit heavier than mine. Cheers, Ian

Stunning looking guitar Jonny. Jason is a top guy and a great builder. Lovely looking end graft and interesting that you elected not to have a cutaway. The spruce top of your guitar has an almost aged look, has it been stained or treated with an ageing toner? My new Fischer has a Euro spruce top which at the moment is almost white in colour, as was my Sobell MS when I first got it, though it now has aged rather well and the top has darkened up considerably.
Can't wait to hear you play it.
Cheers,
Ian
ps. Are you going to be over in the Uk in July - specifically July 13th ? Hosting a guitar do then...

Good to see you here Ian - welcome! Keith Thanks Keith. I managed to find my way here a while ago, largely through serendipity... I took the Fischer over to steveh's place recently and he gave it the thumbs up, big time. Cheers, Ian
