I got to play this particular banjo and was totally knocked out by it. Martin left it with me for a week or until I reluctantly had to give it to his father-in-law to take back up to Sheffield. Did he leave you the hat? Yep, it's one of mine !

Hi Gang, Had a fairly surreal weekend so far. Roy Bailey stayed with us Friday through until this morning as he was playing at the Wickham festival. We had a great night on Friday with lots of playing and singing. So much so that Roy asked me to play with him for a song or two on the main stage at Wickham. I did, and loved it... Cheers, Ian

Hi Everyone,
Some of you got to know Eric Hunt (TheCorner) over the last few years through attending some of my guitar events as well as Scorpiodog's (Paul).
Eric's wife, Maggie, called me this morning to tell me that Eric left us on Wednesday night rather suddenly. Eric was suffering from lung cancer, a condition that he bore with extreme courage and dignity - he was a genuinely lovely man and I shall miss him. It's a great shame as I was really looking forward to seeing him again tomorrow at the guitar do here. Maggie told, me that Eric really enjoyed the musical get togethers that he came to and always waxed lyrical about how much of a great time he had with all of us.
That's all for now guys,
Cheers, love and best wishes to all...
Ian

I use a lot of altered tunings but I have a number of guitars so I can keep them in a mixture of C D and G based tunings which prevents a lot of re-tuning. However, it's always the 3rd string that breaks as I use two C tunings CGCGCD and CGCFCD at lot. Basically, the only way to avoid the problem is to change strings more frequently. I use Elixirs but have to change them every two to three weeks on the guitar(s) where I'm re-tuning the third string a lot in order to avoid breakage. Breaks, when they do occur are always on the winding post which suggests metal fatigue is the underlying cause.
Cheers,
Ian

OK, so I did go over to Brighton last Saturday to check out the new Fischer that Trevor has recently got from Steve.
It's a 12/15 model so, a 12 fret guitar with a 15" lower bout, as Trevor indicates more of a 000-sized instrument. Sides and back are of some great quality mahogany and the top is Lutz spruce. The combination seems to work very well. The guitar is exceptionally well balanced and sweet sounding with that unmistakable woodiness one associates with mahogany. The Florentine cutaway eliminates any of the access problems to the dusty end that can plague a 12 fret design and the trebles up there really shimmer and shine beautifully. All in all another great guitar from Mr Fischer who is a truly great guitar builder.
Whilst there, I got to play a Wren that has recently arrived and was very impressed indeed, a massive amount of guitar for the money, it will not hang about for long. The Ed Claxton guitar that Trevor has there is a monster too, very very classy.
I had only a little over an hour to spare so was limited in terms of how many instruments I could look at. One could easily spend an entire weekend in the shop as there is so much to take in...
Cheers,
Ian

Trevor at TAMCO e-mailed me yesterday evening to announce the arrival of a Fischer 12/15. I shall be popping over to Brighton on Saturday with my Fischer Concerto to compare the two guitars. So if anyone is interested in Steve's work, Saturday would be a good day to be in the South... Cheers, Ian

Hi Rob,
Thanks for the invite. What time should I come around ? I'll bring a guitar or two and some vino and hopefully some musical inspiration.
Eric, I'll see what I can come up with as far as new MS stuff is concerned...
Cheers for now,
Ian

I shall be attempting to tab out a few songs off Martin Simpson's latest album which is due to be released in July this year. That'll keep me off the streets for some time...
Cheers,
Ian
