Hi Folks, Great news! Glad you liked that Martin! Mandolins, I was hoping this year would see the first one but alas far too busy. Hopefully next year. (much easier if someone was to order one) Bernd, I think that it will still be going then, just let me know your details and dates and we'll work it out. Would be great to have you on board. Not a Folksinger but I know a delivery van man! Milk and 5 sugars tho!!! I'll start to look out woods soon. All the very best, Rory

Hi Folks, I hope that this finds you all well. Many thanks to everyone who has signed up thus far, the list is still open to anyone who hasn't yet. So I've been thinking! How about a Taran Mhor like the one Karine Polwart picked up last week. Perhaps in Cocobolo/Italian with a bevel? Any thoughts? There has been alot of development in this model over the last few years and I'd love to see what folk think. All the best, Rory

Brilliant!! Great to know folk are up for it! Many thanks! If you can send your addresses to my email I'll start a list. rorydowling@taranguitars.co.uk I'll have a think about what would be a good guitar to sent, it going to be hard to please everyone but I'll do my best. Any more for any more? I'll run this until the guitar is ready so there's time to get your name down. All the very best, Rory www.taranguitars.co.ukP.S. We've got the theme tune anyway!!!

Hi All, I hope that this finds you well. So the winter is a wee way off but coming none the less and what better way to while away those cold evenings than playing guitar!? I'm thinking about doing another road trip and am putting the feelers out to see if people might be interested? For those new to the forum, I did a road trip a few years ago with one of my Tirga Beag models. There where around 30 plays that took part and the feedback that I received was amazingly helpful! This trip would be open to all members of the forum. So if you would like to be part of the tour please let me know and then we can decide what model you might like to play. I'm very busy at the moment and don't think that things will let up much before Christmas so it will most likely start in the new year. Look forward to hearing your thoughts. Hi All! Keith what can I say. A million thanks yous! When Keith got in touch, (which wasn't cheeky at all!) I thought that we might have a wee chat before the dread came home again. So this review with videos, wonderful playing and recordings is just amazing. Some interesting points, it was just an experimental model but I'll chance the tuners and put the magnet in for the truss cover. As I mentioned in the interview with Martin, I plan to make the next one in Mahogany/Adirondack, I’ll post soon. Anyway must get back to the booth, between coats you see, Keith thank you again. All the very best, Rory

Hi Mark,
Many thanks!
The most challenging order was for a Bouzouki. The cilent was great, but it was a real learning curve getting the archtop right. Pleased with them now! Repairs, a C1 Martin archtop. It needed a neck reset, great to see and spend time with an instrument like that.
All the best,
Rory

Martin, Many thanks for posting this. Great to get some feed back. The Dread as you say is prototype, not that I scrimped on anything really. Sadly your recording don't work for me here, computers!
Interesting about the strings, they Elixir 13-56 nano PB so that might be where the metallic feel is coming from. I did do the bolt on neck for ease however the next one will be the standard dovetail.
Keith, Good question, I'm happy with the guitar yes. I set out to build a dread that had good treble and a strong (not woofy) bass. I also wanted it to have good separation so that it could be flat picked and strummed. I think it does those things. The next one is Mahogany Adirondack, now that's exciting!!!
Thanks everyone.
All the best,
Rory

Hi Folks,
Thanks for taking a moment to read this and many thanks to Martin for all of his time. I really enjoyed doing it.
Good question Leo! I always wanted to build John Martyn a guitar, alas. I've enjoyed working with Matheu Watson over the years, I was talking to him today and he's got some ideas for a new guitar after his work on the new trans atlantic sessions. So really I enjoy working with players who are looking to develop a guitar. Any suggestions?
Ah Yes the Cedar Tirga Beag!! Well, maybe later this year Ocarolan. I've got some projects that I would like to get started, the Mandolins are burning a hole in the bench but you'll be the first to know. One question Walnut or Rosewood?
All the very best,
Rory
