Brilliant idea - I know someone who'll be keen to enter, I'll let him know via FB.

That really is fantastic Dave - the things you get up to in that shed!
Love the variation on the florentine cutaway.

Read all about it in the members section.

Funny you should mention the Ovation Balladeer, I owned one for many years, sunburst, shallow back, no pickup - sounds all wrong, but I loved it. Very easy to play and tapped harmonics were a dream. I sold it to buy my Revell Fairbourne (two mentions in one thread!), a good guitar, but tapping harmonics were not possible and it wasn't as forgiving as the Ovation. That was my first luthier-built guitar and in many ways in another league to the Ovation, but that mass produced factory guitar (with a rigid wood/carbon top and apparently no need for bracing as it was so stiff) inspired me.
So, without getting into my almost accidental evolution up the guitar ladder, what I'm trying to say is that who cares about names and makes, if a particular guitar inspires your playing, then it's a good thing.
Value for money is another issue though... buying a big name just for the name may not be wise when you can get a lot more for your money from an unknown maker/make.

Just a thought - how about for the next forum project all the recordings are entitled "www.acousticsoundboard.co.uk forum project: song title" or similar - on YouTube, boxnet, soundcloud etc. - that should create some more interest.
I'll endeavour to promote the forum to guitarists I know.
But we all know what creates a lot of interest... controversy - we've not had a troll on here yet, or have we?

I'm using some John Pearse strings at the moment, like them a lot. Can't remember which ones they are though. They are expensive and I've only been using them for a month, so not sure of their longevity. I'll go back to Newtones when I can easily buy them (don't exist in France) and always have a stock of D'Addarios to fall back on.

In addition to the usual advice: pack padding behind the headstock, loosen the strings a few tones, take everything out of the pick/capo compartment... put the whole case in a cardboard box with some protection to stop the case moving in the box. This way you can assure that even if it is treated badly, no harm will come to it and it will also protect your case. You'll have to pay a bit for excess baggage as well.
In Europe though, I drive with my guitars - good excuse for a road trip.
Have fun in the sun.

Surprised he's gone for a decent handbuilt guitar? Or that he's sold the guitar he thought was the best guitar ever?

Wow - that looks amazing Dave, what a nice surprise to see it develpoing so quickly, thanks again for working so hard on it.
One thing I was worried about was the fret measurements... but that was before you came on board - every mistake could be patched up, but if I got the fret measurements wrong I'd have a lot of hassle to correct them. Looks like there was no chance the fingerboard would slip during glueing with those cocktail sticks, I presume you downed the Sangria!

Thanks Keith, Robbie, Mark, Sigmadel and Andrew.
It's a pleasure to play your arrangements Mark, they seem to suit the guitar well.
Yes you are right Andrew... won't be flogging this one to fund another. If it were similar to the Sobell I wouldn't be able to justify keeping it, but it couldn't be more different - both great, but both very different.

Thanks for your kind words... next up is another of Mark's arrangements that really shows off the sustain... sorry about the vid, there's a Matrix moment and I had to extend the vid as I played a version that was too short...

Thanks Dave, Keith and Martin... my friend's 'studio' in his loft - was cold, but he did heat it a bit for the guitar, not me! Working on the last one now. Didn't have to do too much to the sound thankfully - that's pretty much straight out of the guitar.
