Now, a fair few of you are on me mailing list I know, but a fair few aren't. I've just written a post on me blog "plugging" the newsletter. So I thought I'd make a post on the forum, plugging the post...There's some nice guitar pics for those who enjoy that sort of thing. Looks like I'm in the pickguard business folks! I had my first order for one the other week from a chap in Germany who wanted one to fit his Santa Cruz. Whilst I was on with that I made moulds for Martin D45's D18's and Gibson L00's. The first few are up on ebay. Nigel www.nkforsterguitars.com/handmade-acoustic-pickguards/

Whilst looking up some of the names mentioned in this thread I came across this: www.dougyoungguitar.com/pickuptests/Be warned, interesting though it is, it's also a bottomless pit. I found a few I liked, but what you need to remember is most pickups sound ok at low volumes, it's what they sound like through a PA at high volume where the trouble starts. nigel

Would love to play your Howe Orme replica nkforster Jonny Ah, that little guitar was lovely. I sold it to a feller in the US. Another Howe Orme nut. But I can't make another one on spec, they're just too unusual. Be happy to make you one though - given the chance I'd make nowt else! n www.nkforsterguitars.com

I was listening to Davey Graham on the commute this morning. Some lovely DADGAD playing going on there. Some lovely non DADGAD too! I'm afraid Mr Graham doesn't count for this thread despite being amazing as he is currently deceased. Pick one who isn't please!

Who are your favourite contemporary dadgad players these days folks? Fingerstyle and plectrum? I'll start off - Tom Fletcher for fingerstyle and Ian for playing with a pick: Your turn! Nigel www.nkforsterguitars.com/instruments/

Is there any justification for keeping guitars that are not being used?
Not really. If it ain't being used, sell it or give it away. Another way to look at it is though - "is there any harm in keeping a guitar that is not being used?" To which the answer is - probably not, but that depends on how much space to have. Honestly, if you ain't playing it, sell it and put the money towards something you will play. If there is nothing you want, spend it on a holiday or give it to a worthy cause. Both are better options than keeping an instrument around you don't need or want. Just my two'penneth.... n

A couple of weeks back, I asked on this forum and another is anyone knew of a European maker of Tor-tis™ - like pickguards. Importing stuff from USA to Germany s a right old carry on, so I was keen to find someone closer. There was no response. Bah. So I had a go myself. I've been messing for what seems like hours, and I tell you what, I think I've cracked it! I've written it all up on the blog. Nigel www.nkforsterguitars.com/blog/tor-tis-pickguards/

I like them shiny Tor-Tis pickguards for acoustics that LMI sell but importing from the US is a total red tape P.I.T.A. in Germany. There is a feller selling them in the UK but they are £60 each. Anyone know of any decent alternatives? Nigel www.nkforsterguitars.com

I use garden cane from the discount shop on Shields road, Byker. £1 for 10 with felt bits on the end (that come in a pack of 50 or so from same shop). No expense spared at NK Forster Guitars HQ! For the deck itself I just upgraded to a doubler - two bits of kitchen work top about 1.5m long, six threaded M8 rods, and six legs make of pine with a slot down the middle for the M8 rod. You can do a top and a back at the same time. I made it so when me first student comes in a couple of weeks we can work side by side. nigel www.nkforsterguitars.comGlad to hear your "build a guitar with me" has taken off, nkforster . In German or English? Geordie.

Judas! But rather nice. Actually the guitar sound isn't too far removed from a lot of plugged in so-called acoustic sounds. Keith I would much rather hear a decent electric sound than an undersaddle pickup any day. n
