While spruce cedar and mahogany are the usual tonewood choice for tops, I wonder what other woods are used. Has anyone used say pine, oak or birch as a tonewood? Would willow or poplar work? Cherry or apple? I like the idea of guitars made with wood that we see all around us. What are the challenges involved in using such woods?

Perhaps the Taygus classical that I bought from a second hand shop, fixed up, then gave to my brother! So wish I'd kept it!

See that screw at the bottom? Has a rubber bit on the other side. It kept coming loose and would ping off mid playing. Stupid thing lol

I'll never understand the reverence for these things. I had one a few years ago, it got binned, bloody useless thing. Much prefer the spring type one I have. I'm genuinely interested to know how it was 'bloody useless'! And I hope you've got a tuner permanently attached for that spring capo! I'm surprised by the reaction to these shubbs, as I thought there was a lot of love for them on here. However, I perfectly understand the 'if it ain't broke' school of thought. At the moment I'm having a tough time with my G7th capos, and have thought about going back to shubb as, as many have said before, they just work (though obviously not in Larry's case). I'm a sucker for a bit of bling me! Robbie I just couldn't get it to stay on, kept coming loose and couldn't get the screw to turn to tighten it. One day it came loose while playing so I chucked it. Then I won an excellent Tanglewood Speedbar in an online competition and it was brilliant, just worked first time. And why would I need to retune constantly? I didnt, it just worked fine.
