The Greek National Anthem, hmm! Was it for Greeks Jonny? If so, that was a very unusual way to treat you! Me and my bouzouki buddy Spiros always get fed (we did have to eat in the restaurant kitchen once though)! We did have a plonker ask why Spiros didn't have a Greek guitar player one time, that's probably the most uncomfortable I've ever been made to feel (so far) whilst playing.

Final set up done and plugged into my old PA amp, WOW! I can't think of any reason to need to upgrade anything. There's plenty of tone (for me) from "Woody" to "Twangy" on the single pickup. Grayn, your right compared to the violin bass it's a beast, so maybe it'll be the J-bass next time for the thiner neck!

So other than final setup it's finished (the fitted nut needs some work) I'm realy very happy with this instrument. The hardware is perfectly functional, pickups seem ok (through my Irig) and there is no unwanted noise from the pots or the jack socket. Depending on how much work you want to put in to the finishing this is a nice weekend project! I might go for the Strat next (with a Tele head of course)!

So I put it all together to see what needed attention! The pre drilled holes for the machine head screws were all over the place and it would have looked awfull left as is. Plug the holes and re drill, much better! I'd have liked to have seen brass gears and black screws on the machine heads though! The neck fitted the pocket well and lined up nicely central over the pickup routs and the bridge holes. Just a small wedge to fit in the bottom of the pocket. Nice chunky bridge, like the machine heads though, too much chrome! Only 3 of the scratch plate holes lined up but a few pegs and a drill will sort that! Looks quite cool. Paint next!

I was thinking Hammer and Sickle to show my solidarity with the new Greek government!
Seriously though it will either be orange or off white, not sure yet!

Not blue Leo, I thought I'd do it red with a couple of gold garden tools on it! Keith, I decided I'd use all the stock hardware and see what my bassist friends think of it. Maybe change in the future! Martin, call me boring but you can't beat a "Tele" headstock!

Hi folks, after selling my renovated Hofner Violin Bass last summer I decided I wanted another bass (just a cheap one)! I decided rather than buying a cheap one I'd get a kit and see what could be made of it. I bought the "Harley Benton" P-Bass kit from Thomann, this cost €88 (only about €10 less than the equivalent coplete one)! However, I thought that spending a bit more time over assembly than the folk on the Chinese production line have should produce a superior instrument. So, this is more a review of the kit rather than a build thread! The parcel arrived, 3 boxes within 1. The neck was in one box, the body in another and the hardware in the other, all parts protected well! The body is 3 piece basswood, sanded and finished with a sealer coat. The wood is not nice enough for a natural finish but perfectly good for paint! The neck is one piece maple with a rosewood fretted fingerboard and fitted truss rod, the head is drilled for tuners but left oversize so you cut your own head shape. Hardware, well let's see!!

I used UPS through Interparcel to send my Hofner bass to the US. It cost around 60GBP plus 20GBP for 1000GBP insurance, plus VAT of course. UPS collected it from my address on tuesday lunchtime and it was signed for in Upstate NY on thursday evening, tracking showed me where it was through the whole journey. All in all I was very happy with this service.

Julie, I think you have nailed the top three! I recently decided to learn Scuba diving at 54 years young! My instructor (who decided to qualify to teach for her 60th birthday) is a retired special needs teacher. She sticks to the book but, sees where problems or fears lie, she doesn't push to get these sorted but works them in to other things that I have no problems with. And I certainly don't think I'd be doing it if I didn't like the teacher!

You could re-fret the neck with frets that have a thicker tang than the existing ones, this could lessen the neck relief but it is a bit hit and miss!
