Check out the "Michael Messer" forum for tons of friendly advice. Busker supply the Messer "Blues"and "Lightning" they don't have cannons anymore although "Republic Guitars"in the States do a "Miniolian"which is the same as the cannon, you'll find them on ebay. Regarding the Hofner, I don't know for sure but many of these resonators are not built in the correct way. Another recommendation would be the very keenly priced Gretsch resonators, they are well spoken of.
Hope that helps. Keith.

This is just a dry run before clear coating it and glueing the neck on. Just to see if I got the sunburst right Keith.

I just started shooting lacquer at it yesterday. Even the tin of lac looks like it came from the 60's clearcoat sealer yesterday And amber (the beginning of the sunburst) today.

I'll work on some sound clips. The scale on these is 35cm although that's not set in stone! I would describe the sound as "plinky plinky" Keith! Mulberry is lovely wood Dave, I got a load of it because my neighbour cut the tree down to make way for a building job so I got the tree, we cut it down and converted it in 2000.

I'd have thought they were rare Dave but they're showing up alot on ebay at the moment. Probably because of the 50th Beetles thing! They are quite collectable though. I've joined a very helpful Hofner forum so I could research as much as poss before pulling it apart! I had no Idea it was as old as a 65 when I bought it or that it was collectable, I just thought it would be an interesting project. And I don't play bass (guess I'll have to learn now!!

This pair of Greek baglamas has been my project for the past couple of months. A baglama is a half size bouzouki (not a toy though) used in Greek folk music alongside bouzouki, guitar, acordion etc. These two are almost identical twins but one has a mulberry neck and more mulberry in the body the other has a yew neck and more yew in the body. Sitka soundboards and rosewood fingerboards. Keith.

Hi folks, not strictly acoustic but it is a bit!! I've just picked up this 1965 Hofner 500/1 violin base, it's in a right state but it's all there the neck is off as it needed re setting and I'm going to re instate the sunburst finish.

Hi everybody, I've found you at last! Isn't it just so rude to cut forums without prior notice! Luckily I got a message from O'Carolan on the Acoustic fb page (thanks Keith).
I've got a new computer so I have to sort out my bookmarks and remember passwords etc, then I'll sort out an avater for here and post a picture of my new acquisition!!
