I will be a while (probably a very long while) until I'm good enough to put an inlay on an instrument, just doing it for fun for now.

Some progress, a few gaps filled by dust, I may come back to this part at the end, hopefully my skills will be honed a little by then.

That's amazing Nick. I made a start today on what I have called the Gryphon. As someone warned the first small piece cut fell onto the carpet, or went in the vacuum cleaner/dust extractor never to be seen again. I'm realising now how important it is to get the sides even so they fit snug, still a little filing to be done. I also got a light/magnifier, its a blessing, and good eye protection.

Two moons... Any tips on getting them out would be appreciated, I'd like to try the routing again without cutting more shell. I'd also like to try making the the abalone moon look look like a reflection of the pearl moon on water.. any ideas?

Thanks for the encouragement Nick and others.
Nick I would love to see some of your Makie-e work. I don't even know what it is.

I'm making some progress but now I have a tight fit I can't get it out so the next task is to try with a piece of mother of pearl.

I'm a bit disappointed with my efforts today, don't give up the day job time. I'll try again next week.

Hopefully when I get more experienced and get the right blades I won't use so many.. about 50p a blade. The expensive bit is the mother of pearl and abalone.

The first cut! I broke two blades before I realised they aren't circular in cross section. I had to look with a magnifying glass to see the teeth and work out which way to put them into the saw.
